The thing is, I'm on my week-long spring break, and I'm going home for 2 days to see my parents and then going back to my apt, so it'd be the ideal time to get it pierced because I probably wouldn't see my parents again for at least 2 weeks and by then, my swelling would have gone down, not to mention the fact that I want to use the spring break as recovery time, I certainly don't want to go back to school with a huge tongue!

I just don't to know if the chemicals they will be using to whiten my teeth will affect my new piercing. I'm starting to think I should just wait to pierce after the whitening, if the chemicals they use are strong enough to whiten teeth, it definitely can't be good for a new piercing, huh?

I'm pretty certain I'm going to get this piercing, and I know of all the risks involved, so please don't waste your time scolding me or trying to tell me horror stories, I've heard them all. Thanks!

i would wait. after 2 weeks it will feel perfectly healed, but it's still a new hole in your mouth, and those chemicals are pretty harsh. if you do it now your risk messing up your piercing and then you will just have to take it out and start over... waste of money!

I would wait. When I got mine pierced, I was told that the piercing can become easliy infected. I was even instructed to use mouthwash after smoking a cigarette! I don't know what chemicals they use to whiten teeth, but I would wait until your tongue is fully healed before visiting the dentist. Or, get the teeth done and then get your tongue pierced a few days later.

Also, the swelling went down in about 3 days for me, but eating for those days was an adventure! Be prepared for that. Beyond that, the barbell can do damage to your teeth if it is too long and rests against them when your mouth is closed. After the piercing has healed and the swelling is gone, think about replacing the original barbell with a shorter one.

I think you should wait.....The chemicals might do something to you teeth. I would be afraid because all the chemicals and stuff in your mouth might go in to the whole of your piercing. Even though im 11 and dont know alot, but im pretty sure.

Your mouth should still be swollen after the piercing you may want to Waite since you'll be still trying to get use to something new in your mouth. Your Dentist just may have his own good advice call them they deal with that all the time. Good luck!

I've whitened my teeth before and it's irritating enough when you don't have sores/wounds in your mouth. In 2 weeks your tongue will not be healed properly. Best bet is to call your piercer and ask them since they're the experts.

It shouldnt matter, in two weeks ur toungue will be pretty healed up. Mine is pierced and it only took it about a week to get back to feeling normal, but ask the dentist if you wanna be safe. Have fun!

You don't need horror stories, just real life stories, here's one I was talking to this girl and noticed her pierced tongue, I commented something about how to take it out, she took it out and there laying in her hand was this white crud encrusted shaft!!!@ Disgusting! Go for it, be another plaque, germ filled mouth just waiting to transfer all that to someone elses -----whatever thats for!
