As others have said, if you look in the top left of the window there are three little round buttons, an x, - , +

x closes the window
- minimises the window so that it sits on your dock (next to the trash can)
+ makes your window the full screen size

there is an option to have it hidden altogether, it doesn't sit in the dock, the only way you know you have the application open is by the little black triangle under the application. to do this you hold down the apple key, and press h

to get your window back, click on the applications dock icon...

the little yellow circle in the upper left corner will minimize your windows to the dock. in ealier versions of mac os systems, double clicking the title bar would minimize the window to just the title bar in the place it stood on your screen. os versions above 9 (i believe) took this feature away. there is a 3rd party application called window shade that you can purchase ($10 or so) that allows this feature and many other useful ones to become available again. www.unsanity.com is the website for the app. download.com should have a trial version.

On Mac OSX, you click the center round orb on the upper left hand side. In many applications, its yellow. That will shrink the window you are looking at down and send it to the Dock.

You really don t need to minimise in mac, minimising will put pressure in the amount of icons you have at the bottom bar of your mac (by duplicating the app s icon - one for showing that it s active, and one for showing that it s minimised). You just simply click in a different app to work somewhere else. If you need to go back you use gestures or click back in the other App you were using at start
