I am not sure if I would like to be a school principal or get my doctorate and become a college professor. What are the responsibility and pay differences? I know about what a principal makes, but how much does the average associate professor make annually?

The salary of a professor varies according to the school and the amount of experience and education that you have. The same is true of being a principal.
Personally I would never be a principal. The responsibility is insane. There must be a member of the administration in attendance at every school event. There are days when the principal arrives at 6 in the morning and does not have the chance to return home until midnight.
The paperwork is immense and every problem goes through you. With the number of angry students today; I do not think that any school can pay enough.
As for a professer at the university; I know that my school requires so many publications a year from each professor. This is so that the school name will be in educational journals and books. I think that this could be a challenge, but I would take it any day over being a principal. I have had teachers who write books, and then require them as a textbook in their course. I am sure that they are definitely making money from those types of things.

I will choose to be a school Principal. I have been a teacher for 7 years and I dont want to teach anymore. I want to make a difference in more than 22 kids a year. It is a lot of responsability, but it is the same when you are a teacher. Now you need to make yoursefl clear and figure out if you want to continue teaching or you rather be an administrator. if teaching is your love and passion then become a professor.
