Giving the dog benadryl is safe. The dosage for a dog is 1 mg per pound of body weight.
a 30 pd dog can have 25mg a 50 pd dog can have 50 mg
It will make the dog sleepy. So that is a normal reaction to the benadryl. If the dog is 10 pds give 1/2 of a 25 mg

I have given my Lab regular benadryl for his allergies. Vet recommended of course. The dosing he told me was 1-25mg per 25lbs but not all at once. Spread it out to not more than 1 every 6 hours if needed. Typically I give 1 in the morning and 2 in the evening so that it helps him sleep, otherwise he is up late, licking his paws and other "itch" spots.

Actually, our vet recommended Children's Benadryl for our puppy when he had an allergic reaction to a vaccine. You should really check with your vet first, to find out the right dose for your dog. Once you know the correct dosage then your dog will be fine.
Call your vet. They will help you.
Good luck!

No. I've given her Benadryl because she has been stung by a bee and allergic to certain flowers. If your dog is allergic to kids, find a new home for the dog.

my vet recommended benadryl for my dogs allergies. she is a german shepherd (65 lbs) i can give her up to 50 mg (2 tablets) 2-3 times a day, usually only give it to her once a day, it makes her a little drowsy. depending on your dogs size you have to go by that for the amount. your best bet is to talk to your vet. hope this helps.

Yes, My vet recommended it for my Chihuahua when she had a reaction to a tick bite. It was an allergic reaction and she was having paralysis and was sick. I gave her liquid Benadryl which is children's dose , 1 teaspoonful, and she responded quickly. The main side effect would be drowsiness, as with children.

No, but a vet suggested giving my dog baby aspirin for joint pain once. Apparently it worked and my dog loved the taste of the chewable little pills.
