Why is it on here you get people who think they know what they are on about but yet they know **** all, like the guy above.

Do people not realise that firewire is firewire and usb is usb 1 and 2.

I sympathise with you as my mini dv camcorder is also firewire, CANON MV700, and for all of you people out there who think you can simply buy a usb lead and it will work are wrong.

The guy who mentioned about you knowing someone who has a mac knows his stuff as firewire was invented by mac.

What you need to do is buy a firewire card. get one from your local small pc shop, obviously not pc world as you just get ripped off. Ebay is a good source or try www.ebuyer.co.uk. I got mine for £10 but now you will probably get one with a usb 2 as well if you haven't got it already, for about the same. Tha,ts called a combo card. Its easy to fit to your pc as it just fits in one of he spare pci slots.

If you don't know how to do this your local pc shop will do it for about £10.

Hope this helps

I do not think the information you have is correct. It is possible that you were given this information by somebody who, in seeing the plug on your camcorder, thought you need a firewire as the plug on the camcorders do look like as though a firewire should be plugged into it. Normally camcorder can be downloaded to your pc by a cable which has a USB (Universal Serial Bus) plug on one end to be plugged on to the PC and the other end also a a USB plug, but smaller in size, to be plugged into your camcorder. You can get such a cable from PC World. Comet or Currys or some other electronics hardware shop. I hope this is helpful.

There may be an alternate way using the USB, I'm not too overly confident though. Is your problem that you don't have a Firewire port? Most computers bought in the last couple years have at least one, perhaps check a little closer.

i have a mini dv cam
it is a samsung
it came with software// drivers and all that stuff
it also came with a usb cable that i do not know the exact name of, but it has a plug in on the side of my camera that looks like a pyramid with the top cut off, then the other end is a normal usb connector
i can use windows movie maker to do whatever i want with this camera// record live video// copy allready recorded video//
so the answer to your question is no, you do not need a firewire to do this
besides usb 2.0 is faster than firewire

Did you check if you have a firewire port?
My friend and I both have the ports.
There are Fireware to USB adaptors, or you could find someone with a Mac.

fire wire is the ONLY way to d/l your movies from camcorder to pc......usb is not fast enough to transfer the data.
so to clarify......FIREWIRE = YES
USB = NO
The firewire port is also referred to as [ IEEE1394 ]

Dont waste money on a usb cable.... it will not work!
