My female chi started bleeding about 3 or 4 days ago, and I have been taking her to the stud dog every other day like people on here have recommended. They get along fine, but all they want to do is play. They never get down to business. I have been told she wont accept a male until the 8-12th day of her heat cycle, but they are telling me that maybe they are just not going to breed, and that maybe I waited too long. Do you think if I take her on Tuesday she will let him breed? Do you think I should find another stud dog? What is up? I am getting mixed opinions and I am so confused. Please do not tell me to get her fixed... I have home for all of the puppies if she has any. I am very responsible and financially able to take care of all of the puppies, and any problems that may arise. If I id not know I could handle it I wouldn't do it. I love my baby girl, and would never put her in a situation I thought would harm her.

I know that leaving her with the male dog is probably best, but I love her so much and do not feel safe leaving her with another family. She also feels the same way about her male dog. I am so attached to her and she sleeps with me every night and I just do not trust anybody else to treat her the way I treat her. And I know if she got outside while staying with them she would try to run home and probably get lost.

It's too early to breed her. You should wait until the 12th day of her heat cycle.

By the way, if you love her so much and she is your baby, why are you putting her through the stress of pregnancy? A lot of Chihuahua's require emergency cesareans and often die white giving birth. Are you going to be OK if she does die while giving birth? Also, have you screened her of all hereditary diseases (luxating patella, eye problems etc.)? If not, you are not a responsible person. Does she have champion lines or is she a champion?

I breed small dogs in a small way. If she only started bleeding 3-4 days ago she will not be ready to stand till day 9-12 and will only be fertile in that period even if she does stand before that and later than that. It is a very small window of opportunity. One way to tell is when the flow starts to appear very watery and/or is yellowish to clear I would not worry too much about it. Nature will take it's course. When I started breeding I was as apprehensive and confused as you are, and worried about the same things. But nature does take over and when she is ready, both of them will know and playtime will be over and business will be done. I have been breeding my little female once a year for 8 years now. She is now being retired and is in excellent health accourding to my vet.

Playing is a part of coutship with dogs. Your too inpacient. Leave them alone and maybe they will get down to business. If your taking the females away too soon then you have your answer. Some dogs take a while to warm up to each other and by playing together then that's what they do.
Actually I alway introduced my females around the 10 day of their cycle and left them with the males until the 17th day. So I think maybe your too anxious and your the one who needs to just relax. Breeding isn't always exact.

It's way too early to breed her yet... Closer to 12 days she is likely to breed with the male. Start going to see him day 9 see what he thinks. If you have a microscope you can check to see where she is in her heat season, The cornifying cells will let you know exactly when she is ready to be bred.
