Keep a squirt bottle handy. When they jump up, give them a squirt, but don't let them see you do it.

When you're away, put scotch tape rolled back on itself on the area of your counter where your cats are likely to land. When they hit it they'll hate it and have a bad association with the counter.

Try making a loud noise to frighten your cats whenever you see them on the counter. It doesn't always work but it's worth a try. Keeping a spray bottle of water nearby to spray them can also work. With my cats, we had to resort to physically knocking him off the bench when he did it as nothing else worked. We didn't do it hard enough to hurt but enough to make him think twice about doing it again. Even that didn't work completely and we still walk in to find a very surprised theif making a bolt for the door. Some cats are theives from natural curiousity and others like somewhere high to sit and view their domain.
What you can do to prevent the temptation for your cat is to make sure the counter is always clear of food. If he's jumping onto the bench to sit up high then find him a cat scratching play stand that he can climb on and sit on top of.

Good Luck

You can get some placemats or even cardboard will be ok, stick double sided tape to it, cats hate walking on it. I suggest you do it this way so that you can remove it easily when you want to use the table or counter and put it back when you're done, you don't want every bowl you use sticking.

A loud clap, spray from a water bottle or a firm NO will discourage your cat, but they are smart and may work out they can only do it when you're not there.

Lot's of people have probably said this but, get a spray bottle and fill it with water. Whenever you see your cat jump on the counter or table, squirt your cat with a heavy mist. It worked with us!!

Either when your cats jump on the counter:

1. Keep a squirt bottle handy

2. Firmly tap them on the head.

Just keep on doing this and they'll stop after about a week. Good luck!

dont take this the wrong way but spray bottle of water for punishment when you are around and when you go out put scotch tape or double sided tape on the edge of the counter.
cause we all know one way or another cats do NOT like getting tape stuck to their feet. Just dont use anything to sticky thats gonna hurt when the cat pulls it off once he or she is back on the floor were they belong. hope this helps.

my cats used to jump on the counters but they stopped now because i taught them not to with the use of water. When your cat jumps on something that you don't want them on simple say no with a firm voice and squirt them with a water bottle. soon they will jump down with you just saying no because the don't want to be squirted

squirt bottles are great for this! However, since you don't want them up there when you aren't home, you might try "sticky paws" on the counter, too. You can find it at most pet stores - it's a non-harmful, non-toxic adhesive strip (tape, pretty much) that will deter your cats from going up where you don't want them.

Water. lightly spray them with a spray bottle, then when they see it on the counter they most likely won't jump on it

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Learn more http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?6Sso

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.
