Hmm, I'm an actress so I should know this, but not much is coming to me...

-Plays are divided into acts and scenes, and movies aren't.
-They both have a director, producer, etc.
-Actors in plays have to get pounds of makeup put on them, so that their complexion will be seen under the stage lighting, but movie actors don't need as much.
-Um, if you're talking about movies in a movie theatre, you need a ticket for both a movie and a play.

I think the similarity that actors don't have to remember their lines should be taken out, or moved to differences... because many times in movies actors just read from signs, or do scenes one-at-a-time so they only have to memorize like 5 minutes of the script. Actors in plays have to memorize all their lines, a lot harder.

While rare, some (longer) movies have intermissions.

In plays, the actors have to speak louder in order to be heard by the audience.

In a movie, a single scene may be shot multiple times before getting just the right effect the director wants. In a play, you might have variations between performances, such as how two actors relate to one another in a particular exchange... this keeps it interesting.

Added later: The comment below is in error. There are few, if any, plays taken from movies. Movies are usually taken from plays or books.

Differences:
In a play you see all the characters at one time, thus enabling you to see all their reactions. Films select the reactions for you.

Plays normally don't have musical scores (which manipulate emotions).

Plays have the immediacy and intimacy that movies lack.

Movies can have more exciting special effects.

Plays happen in one night; films can take years to shoot.

Similarities:
Actors must prepare in the same way to create their characters.
Costuming is the same.
Neither can exist in a vacuum (both need an audience)
Both tell a story
