Okay so my county is under a tornado warning until 7:30pm (its 4:39pm right now), and my brother has never been in a tornado before so he's super scared and I obviously understand why. But I really want to help him out and make him less scared. He always gets freaked out about these things, even when he sees rain his first question is "is this a thunderstorm or a tornado?" It kills me to see him like that. We don't live in tornado alley. But we are directly above that "alley." Minnesota, right next to prescott. Any suggestions. I'll take anything. I've been in a tornado before so I'm pretty calm about it, I just want to help my brother if we do have a tornado. It was just hailing & pouring rain out. Now its stopped...litterally, not anything anymore. But there are BLACK (not kidding) clouds in front of us, in back of us & to the right of us. Thanks for your help. X's and O's. ♥

Just hold him and keep him close to you, take his mind off this by engaging him in some activity like playing a cd and making him sing along with you, ect. Anyways, good luck. Oh and I also live in Minnesota...Minneapolis but the weather here is wonderful. Good luck again :-) :-) :-)

You're depressed because there's nothing good going in your life right now. Go out there and make new friends that are fun and exciting. Soon you'll be having the time of your life and you'll want to live again. Do you have a job? Try getting one because it'll boost up your confidence and make you proud and make you feel like you're doing something productive. Have something to wake up for every morning. Maybe you have a lot of time on your hands? Try jogging in the morning so that that's your first priority instead of thinking about how you hate life. I don't really know if therapy ever works, especially pills. All you need is positive people around you and a place where you feel like you belong, like with a group of friends or something.

Have him help you pack up some books, CD, games, and snacks and have "camp out" in the basement. Build a tent with sheets and blankets. You will be safe there and you can explain that that is the safest place for you to be. Then distract him and have fun with the stuff you packed up... make it feel like a fun adventure. I would turn off the TV and Radio because that will just make him more nervous... hearing them say "tornado warning" over and over.

My dogs are petrified of storms. When ever I am home and there is a storm coming I turn on the tv or music and I call them into a room which ever room I am in I give them treats and talk in a high pitch voice "we're having a storm party" Yeh!!. make it a game distract him.
When I was young and would baby sit if the kids(under5years) were scared because of a storm I would say oh don't worry that's just God moving his furniture and the rain is because he is cleaning. It would work!

Do you have a storm cellar or a safe place to go to wait out the storm warning? If so go there, take a radio and some cards or games to pass the time. Also take along something to drink and eat. If you don't have a cellar go to a room which is shall and has a minimum amount of windows and take the same things.

I have never been in or even near a tornado so I could imagine him being scared. Just try to find something to say to him to comfort him. Maybe play a board game to help calm him down. Good luck.

I get my son to help with the preparations. Tell him to pick out the room with the fewest windows. Fill a gallon jug with water, maybe put some non perishable foods in the room, gather blankets, etc. You will probably be way overprepared, but if he knows there are things to do, it will ease his fears.

Play a game with him, or if your t.v. works watch that to keep his mind off of it. Show him some safety techniques so he knows what to do, and then drop it and let him be near you for comfort.
