In order for God to have a "purpose" as well as we can understand "purpose". It must have design and a function made by an outside party. Because God was not designed or created, a "purpose" is not applicable.
If you are asking what God's purpose for the world is, in the sense that He created the world. He did it as an expression of his love. I don't think this is really something we can comprehend easily if at all. God is not human, so you cannot use human reasoning or throught to comprehend a being so much more vastly greater than we are.

God, by definition, cannot have a purpose. To say that he has a purpose is to presuppose that there is something that he has not achieved, but wishes to achieve. However, since he is omnipotent, it is not possible for him to have achieved less than it is possible to achieve. Hence he can have no purpose.
