If used for making legal copies of DVD's there are a few options. You can use DVD Decrypter (its free ware but is no longer updated due to legal issues but you can still find it on Google) its still around. Or look for a program called Slysoft AnyDVD. These will rip the DVD to your hard drive and remove the protection from the disc. Then you are going to need another program such as DVDShrink or Nero Recode. This will compress the files to fit on a regular store bought blank DVD.

Please note that making copies of your own DVDs for backup is not illegal, but copying others that you do not own is.
