When he says "I love you" first, it simply means he did it before you did. Hopefully he means it, and hopefully you meant it when you said it back.
When he says "I really want to make this work" it means he hopes your relationship will last a while.
Both of those things seemed pretty apparent and face-value...don't try to read more into something than is there...they mean what he said they mean until you have reason to believe otherwise.

When a guy sais i love you first it means that he really does love you!!!! And if he sais i want to make this work it means he wants the relationship to keep on going!!!!

He loves you and he wants you to know that! there's nothing wrong with it and actually its beautiful because most guys don't like having to say it first, or to show their affections.
so make sure you always tell him that you love him back and don't let this guy get away! he sounds wonderful!
