Please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you.
These companies each make cameras costing well below $200 to well over $2,000 and we don't know what you are in the market for. I'd choose Canon on one end of the spectrum, Nikon in the middle, and I've very mixed on the high end.

Overall this Website has more Canon owners than any other brand in my opinion. Nikon and Canon are both excellent companies. But if I had to choose on ruggedness I'd go with Nikon, since I owned a Nikon 35mm well over 20 yrs and still in excellent condition. I used it a lot.

I have a Nikon and I am very satisfied and I have a friend who is satisfied with his Canon. Both are top class and be aware that a regular camera company makes cameras for hp and others.
Choose a price range then compare model to model.

Canon is more of a lasting well made camera brand while nikon is more of a less expensive 1.5 yr camera. Canon has a better record for lasting cameras.

all is to contemplate whether you like that great photos. in case you're happy with the jpeg out of digital camera, all is nice. in case you ought to remodel a 24 mpix on a workstation, you like a efficient device. take a seem at a decrease pixeled sensor kit, like Olympus Pen, Sony A57, working example, Nikon 3100 and D7000 have sixteen mpix besides. there's a extensive distinction in photograph high quality for the time of night photos with decrease pixels. The Sony 24 mpix chip is staggering, yet noisy while gentle is decrease. The sixteen mpix performs here a lot greater effectual. in case you like gentle weight and extensive modular centers, choose for a NEX-6. it particularly is greater costly, inspite of the undeniable fact that it particularly is nicely worth each and every cent you pay for it. D3200 is a good kit, yet with some limits.

Your answer depends on how much you are willing to spend and what the camera will be used for. For studio and action (sports) purposes, I have found Canon to be the best.
