For the past few months I've eliminated sucrose completely. Actually I have eliminated all sweet food from my diet including fruit juice, but excluding fresh fruit.

I want to learn how to cook desserts but what sweeteners are safe to use in place of table sugar? Dextrose? Stevia?

Stevia would be just about the only thing I could think of besides honey...

Honey matabolizes differently in your system and may be an option for you if are trying to stear clear of the sugar pop of sucrose...instead of spiking in your system, it brings you up and down slowly...

Splenda is made FROM sugar, it might not be a good choice. As for being SAFE...I'm a big proponent of the real McCoy...

For example - margarine is only one molecule away from being plastic. Butter tastes better, and is from a natural source, it isn't all chemicals.

Sweet and Low causes cancer, and I'm still waiting for the shoe to drop on Equal. Sugar - the same, tastes better and is from a natural source.

i recommend using more natural sweeteners. including honey or molasses. the processed sweeteners like splenda and sweet and low. they are not good for you in the long run. splenda was originally recommended for older people because it could cause serious problems if used often over a long period of time. they should especially not be used by children.

I have not used it but you probably want to look at agave syrup(fructose). I have looked at it at the grocery store. It's marketed as having a low glycemic index.
