When cooking the very best ingredients, presentation of the finished dish is very important. It's almost like the final chapter of a book. Without good presentation, the dish is unfinished.
I don't go to great lengths to present a dish, I usually let the flavour of the food do the talking, but I do wipe the edges of the plates and arrange the food to please the eye.

Oh, I have done things like choosing the right color, size and shape of the presenting dish. I've decorated the dish with seasonings, sauces and garnish. I make sure that the colors of the food and platter/plate complement each other. I've heated or chilled the dishes. I've brought herbs and plant/flowers into my dishes. Presentation is very important to me when I cook so, the sky can be the limit and oh so fun!

I like to use a canelling knife to make very thin strips of lemon, cucumber to garnish, along with watercress sprigs, and radishes which have been sliced with notches thinly and intermitently but not all the way through, then put in iced water in the fridge . When they come out they look like little water lilies.
Also on desserts, I have spun sugar, and put a nest of it ,or a cobweb of it on top, with drizzled white and dark chocolate sauce around the sweet, and then draw a skewer through at intervals. Gives a rippled effect.

Heh, don't get me started. I've bought a giant martini glass and put it in the middle of a platter and bought tons of berries and grapes to make a centerpiece. I buy sourdough bread rounds to put dip in even though bread cubes aren't part of the dip. And my best one, I went to a vintage shop once and bought an old antique 3' mirror, cleaned it up, and used it for a serving platter for cheese and meat. The mirror only cost $45 but the presentation was excellent!

Hi i remember trying my hardest to keep boiling pasta in a circle inside the pan and almost buring my hands and I aslo remember serving food using my hands so it would look perfect on the plate even though i cant stand things on my hands. i love making things look better than they are and try my hardest to make food look great even if it doesnt taste it! i even got low marks on my GCSE in food tech because the teacher said i always took to much time in making the food look nice! :( I think thats What makes it tast good!
