I see Archbishop John Setanu isn't happy with Blair's regret over Britain's involvment in slavery but thinks there should be a full public apology. Perhaps he would like to apologise, on the church's behalf, for burning protestants in the 16th century, or for the torture and killing of many protestants by the spanish inquisition and more recently for the many acts of paedophilia committed by priests.

It seems to me that before anyone apologises for the sins of others they might rather repent of their own sins first.

I don't suppose we would get any apologies then.

Ah well I suppose we can but dream.

Archbishop John Setanu is an Anglican Minister not a Catholic Priest

John Tucker Mugabi Sentamu, PhD, (born 10 June 1949 in Kampala, Uganda) is the 97th Archbishop of York, Metropolitan of the province of York, and Primate of England. He is the second most senior cleric in the Church of England, after the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the first member of an ethnic minority to serve as an archbishop in the Church of England.

And now the Catholic Church is getting the blame for something they did not do, Typical

To remain focused, the church always condoned and encouraged slavery. The Bible does too. That's probably why the bishop is unhappy with Blair's regret. The church fundies do not regret.

I believe slaves were mentioned in the bible and that Jesus and the boys seemed to have no problem with it. Do you actually expect the church to apologize. When the church mentions something, especially that dictatorship Vatican, I tend to laugh first and then ignore second. The organized church is outdated and the more we and countries leaders choose to ignore them and disregard what they say the sooner we will be rid of these ancient lie factories.

Forgiveness of someone that isn't sorry is sort of pointless. If you think about it without all the other stuff added then actually an apology is needed to allow people to move on in their forgiveness.

I wonder why no one wants to say sorry. I'm sorry slavery ever happens and that people die. So I don't see whats wrong with us as a collective saying sorry.

And I'm thankful to God for people like William Wilberforce.

I am fed up to the back teeth of this apology rubbish. Right now on my local television is a "debate" on whether we should apologise for the slave trade. However, the black people on the panel are saying that an apology is now NOT enough because they had to ask for it - they are saying that as they had to ask for an apology is doesn't count - what the hell are we supposed to do to put this issue to bed and move on! I feel very sorry for these people with their victim mentality - I feel so sorry for them.

First of all, you are talking about organized religion. The church
is the body of Christ. This means anyone who believes that
Jesus is the Christ (God) is apart of the body. There are many denominations and organized religion is just that , political and controlling and hypocritical. There is no connection . There will be fighting among the people until the Lord returns and straightens things out. He will rule with justice and righteousness.

i'm extremely religious yet i do no longer bypass to church by using fact i've got self belief uncomfortable there. many folk that went to my extreme college bypass there and that i do purely no longer prefer to be stricken. additionally, my grandmother is going there and tries to fake like each little thing is okay in our kinfolk and that is not any longer. no longer something bothers me extra desirable than a individual who tries to "save up Appearances". She'll introduce me to human beings by using fact she's an Elder and hug me and be all phony and smiley like we are aside of the Brady Bunch. it is so uncomfortable. i could quite worship God in my very own way. Edit: I accept as true with the guy who reported "hypocrisy". So actual. I left a church positioned on the pastor exchange into having affairs with youthful college pupils on an identical time as he exchange into preaching approximately following the commandments. i'm especially particular that "Thou shalt no longer dedicate adultery" is one that he did no longer care approximately. He'd look down his nostril at different sinners on an identical time as he exchange into having his affairs. What a jacka**!

or perhaps he would like the Pope Benedict to do all of those things?

As an Archbishop, he cannot apologize for the atrocities that the Church has done in the past, only the Pope can speak for the Church.

Thank you for bringing up the faults of man, not God. Church hypocristy is the result of sin and pride - man not willing to obey God. Being a real Christian is about having a real personal relationship with God. Let man apologise to man for their own hypocrisy but we should take care not to let the hypocrites come between us and God. If that happens, watch out because the hypocrites who are comes between you and God are nearer to God than you are and that is the real danger! (They are standing in the middle between you and God!)
