I am getting Two wisdom teeth removed tomorrow. I am REALLY nervous! All I am getting is novacain and Nitrous oxide (laughing gas). All the people on here that said it was easy, were put to sleep. Anyone had their teeth removed with laughing gas? Do you feel relaxed. I'll tell you right now I am about to freak out!

Nitrous is just fine to get your teeth extracted. You'll still be awake and conscious, but very relaxed. You'll feel a tingling sensation throughout your body and feel as if your floating. Since you'll still be awake, you may feel pressure during the procedure, but definitely no pain. I had my 3'rd molars extracted just using local and nitrous and had no problem. I wouldn't worry. Another plus, you'll save hundreds of $ by using nitrous and not getting put to sleep.

In December, 2006 I had a big old molar removed with novacaine and "laughing gas". No problem! I think if the dentist is good and gentle you are O.K. I felt nothing and when they gave me the "gas" I was relaxed and not stressed anymore. If you feel really nervous the dentist may give you a valium if you ask. I don't think the doc wants a nervous patient any more than you want to be one. I totally sympathize, but don't chicken out. You'll be glad when it's done. Good luck! Sunny

Not to freak you out, but be careful with laughing gas. They gave me too much when I was a kid, and I went through a brief bout of paralysis and was, apparently, pretty loopy for about forty-five minutes. When administered correctly, you feel floaty and sort of tingly and sleepy. It's a bit like the feeling you get right before you fall asleep. In my experience, your limbs feel heavy and a bit like they're falling asleep. After Novacaine, you shouldn't feel much. Maybe a twinge, and you might feel the pressure, but other than that you should be pretty good. Way to go, getting all four out at once! I've not had mine removed, but my boyfriend had his taken out last summer and was swollen for about three days after, but wasn't TOO sore. A week later, he was eating normally again and two weeks later he didn't even notice that they were gone. I'm sure everything will be fine (: Breathe and know that it's better to just get it out of the way.

I had novicaine. That's it, no laughing gas, or anything. And honestly, I wasn't that uncomfortable at all. The only thing I felt was the injections, which weren't that bad...just the same thing you get when you get a cavity filled. My surgeon had a really good sense of humor, and he didn't even let me see any blood! Once the procedure's done, you'll probably get pain meds, so if you want to be unconcious then, you'll be able to knock yourself out. I honestly didn't need any of the Vicodin they gave me, just ibuprofen.

If you're getting laughing gas, you should be fine.

Sometimes the nitrous can be useful just for the anesthetic injections part of the procedure. Let your dentist know that you would like to try the nitrous before starting with the procedure to see if you like it. The effects are normally very transient in duration. Many general dentists are great surgeons.

It depends on if your wisdom teeth have come through or not. Mine were still in my gum and I had IV sedation and Novocaine; however they had to actually chip mine away from the bone. If your wisdom teeth are already showing, you should be just fine with Novocaine and nitrous oxide.

I didn't know anything until it was over. I could hear talking off and on, but no pain. You'll be fine.
