The doctors think he has had it in his system for a long time, My ? is does Hepatitis B hurt the liver even when he was not feeling ill? or does it only hurts the live when you get sick , like my friend he lost 40lbs and has yellow look to his face and the hicccups for a month

Hepatitis B is quite variable. Ordinarily, it causes an acute illness that lasts maybe six weeks, and recovery is complete. Unfortunately, that's not always the case, and there are all sorts of variations. One is acute fulminant hepatitis. Another is a mild illness that persists and can cause liver damage even with minimal symptoms, and it's possible this may be the feeling of your friend's doctors. It's hard to tell without the technical details.
