Hi…I have quite a big problem which I can’t understand or find a solution. Every day this happens: I go to sleep at 9:40, then finally fall asleep until 11. Then I wake up at 2 am, and then again at 4 am. Then at 7 am I don’t want to wake up. Why is this? I exercise everyday, and eat healthy.
I don’t know if this has anything to do with that, but I watch horror movies since I was like 9.
Also, when I was younger and couldn’t sleep, I used to think about Tiffany Valentine [Chucky’s Girlfriend] to make me sleep. It’s just to weird. Can you give me any advise?

It could be possible that you are eating too closely to bedtime, or what you are eating. Also if you exercise in the evening it can make sleeping difficult. I oftentimes have trouble staying asleep. I try not to eat after 6 pm, and turn off the TV. Reading helps relax me, or playing solitaire on my PDA to fall asleep if I am 'wired'. Also the Target generic version of nytol, really works well. I usually stay alseep and sleep well after taking it. Also I am sensitive to the tempurature when I sleep. I have found that I sleep the best when the thermostat is set somewhere right near 68-70 degrees, any higher and I wake up multiple times.

I'd check out possible physical problems first.

You will get a lot of advice on this, but one condition that is very common is "sleep apnea". Ask your housemates if you snore when you sleep. (You will not know unless you ask or unless your housemates tell you about it.) If you do, you may want to check with your doctor about about sleep apnea. This is treated using a CPAP device and at least 10%-15% of adults have this condition.

Otherwise, it is possible that you have a shortage of Melatonin. If you take a Melatonin tablet and you fall asleep, you will know that you are one of those people who does not produce enough of this.

Before you do home remedies, I'd make sure that there is not a physical basis for your sleep problems.

Of course stress can cause sleep problems... but it would not be as consistent as you described.

You will probably get much good advise about other possible causes and remedies.

Good luck in determining the cause of these sleep problems.

If you can't fall asleep after being in bed for 15-20 mins you should get out of bed. The only thing the bed should be used for is sex and sleeping. Your bedroom should have no TV, no lights (including LED's from cell phones, radios, etc), and maybe some white noise like a fan or a noise machine. Try to change your routine to include these suggestions and see if it makes a difference.

Learn to meditate rather than worry when lying awake and wanting to sleep. All is well. Take luscious power naps during the day, when your body wants to sleep. Recent research shows that napping can dramatically reduce the risk of heart malfunctions. One good source for meditation practice is www.dhamma.org. Breath easy.

Have your doctor check you out for sleep apnea or narcolepsy. These are two sleeping disorders of which there is no cure as yet, but can be managed with medication.
