do anything about a child who is emotionally neglected?

He is not physically neglected, but the mother does not play/interact with him. He is two years old and spends most of his day in his pack n play.

If child protective services is called, will they do anything about it? Do they look at this as a "minor" offense? Or do they investigate these types of cases seriously?

To the person who told me to mind my own business...

Maybe you can sit there and watch a child get little to no human interaction day in and day out, but I can't. Sorry if I feel it is my moral obligation to get this helpless baby some help.

It really all depends on your CPS. I'm in Australia and I know our Child Safety Department investigates any type of abuse. I am working with children wo have been removed due to emotional neglect and nothing more. I can't really comment on your service in your country cause I dont know how much they differ to mine but if you truly believe that the child is being harmed by this then you should report it.

They investigate everything. They will come into your life and make things out to be worse than they are.

I recently reported to my daughters school about some children showing my 9yo pornography on school grounds, now CPS is investigating my husband and myself. Its a scary thing to get involved with CPS. All they want to know is if mom or dad is touching inappropriately, nothing about the origional issue. Try not to get involved with them unless it is absolutely necessary. They will watch you forever.

A child is twice as likely to be murdered, seven times as likely to be abused and five times as likely to die in protective services as out. Emotional neglect is better than death or being beaten. Take a moment and think before you do something stupid.

Sorry to say but more than likely they won't do anything. You can call them and report what you think is going on and then there has to be two more reports before they will go visit the home.

the child is neglected any way you say it. he may be being fed and changed, but not having the emotional attachment to a parent is harmful. if you have not tried talking to the mother, tell her it will cause the child to have issues growing up.

It depends on the case worker, but you are morally and probably legally obligated to report any suspected child abuse. END OF STORY.

Don't waste your time on here asking---report something you think is wrong to them instead, not to us. I would hope they would do something about it because only God knows what damage that would cause.
