Because religion revealed itself as an evil institution hundreds of years ago when it used things such as the Iron Maiden on people who didn't feel like bowing to the tyranny of men who lie and claim to be closer to the divine than other men. Apparently, much of the American South is unaware of how religion has been used as tyranny and an excuse to torture and murder people. If you'd like to do some research, here are all the usual suspects:
1. Crusades
2. Inquisition
3. Witch trials
4. Murderous popes
5. Manifest Destiny/American Indian holocaust.
6. Pedophile priests
7. Ku Klux Klan
8. Domestic terrorism

All that is great in America and the West came from Ancient Greece, a good 5-800 years before Christianity tried to annihilate all the learning and respect for life that Greece had developed. Learn man, LEARN!

I don't know why other people don't go to church, but I can tell you why I don't go. It's because of the cliques in church....also the hippocrites that preach...do as I say, not as I do. Also, many times I've left churches because of the preachers behavior....the last church I left because the preacher left his wife for another woman. So, I have no church......none around that I would even consider attending, much less giving them my tithes. So until another one would open up in my area......I refuse to waste my time.

6. I'm not a Christian and I don't believe in what they preach there a lot of the times. Sometimes, I feel at home in church, and feel the presence of God there, but at other times, the sermon gets really bad because they preach against my values, and I come away feeling depressed that such stuff is being preached.

7. I feel much more at home in the Hindu Temple.

Believe me, the hypocrites and bigots are right there in the front pew, singing louder than anyone. A lso, there are many people who believe in God and Jesus as the Savior, ( me included ) but I do not like some aspects of organized religion. The Catholics are famous for laying guilt on their members. The Pope does not believe in divorce; he believes married people should just stay together " as friends ". How archaic is that ???

There's nothing worth going for. It is all a made up sham. God exists...he loves us and expects us to love others. No one needs a stuffed shirt behind a podium wearing a Rolex to tell you that...as he passes around the collection plate to pad his salary and build a new multi-million dollar worship center. Church is nothing but a big business in disguise...a big business that does not pay taxes.

9. they are tired after a long day of travel and want to rest.

People dont have to go to church in order to be a follower of God, they just have to keep him in their mind and act as He would want you to act. Sitting through sermons is only a smalled part of religion.

They like to think for them selves, hate church music, read a science book in school,.....just a few ideas....but then again what do you care. Do your thing and quit worrying about what others do.
