urine. . . urine from bears and wolves. Understand dogs will actually run from this scent. But if you would rather not use this, and your "friendly" neighborhood people let their dogs use the bathroom on your lawn...while they are walking them then put up a sign that says ""If your pet needs to use the bathroom, please take them over to the mulched area instead of letting them go on the yard or plants. Thanks!"

The obvious answer is a fence, but this will be expensive. Another cheaper alternative is a motion activated lawn sprinkler. I used this to keep one neighbors brat kid away from my yard because he liked to destroy my garden.

The pet shops do sell a dog repellant, it smells like moth balls. Dog's hate the smell, but I can't promise it will totally keep them off of the lawn.
The best way to keep your own dogs off of it, is to keep them in a dog run.

A fence around the yard, and cayenne pepper at the edges to keep them away.
