I have noticed everyone today, from this message board, to CBS Sunday Morning attacking "The Secret". My question, is what is it in the human psychy that makes them dowgrade something so positive? Instead of allowing others to make their own judgements and, in turn, use the Law of Attraction for their own good, instead these negative thinkers rip it apart without really understanding it.

Why can't they let others believe without trying to tear it apart? Same thing applies for religion or any kind of belief system. I know why I think this is so, but I would like to know what others think.

Well, I think it comes down to fear. People are afraid of :

A.what they don't know.
B.something that is different

People also can't seem to allow others to believe in something they are afraid of. Look at the religious or atheistic groups. Both sides do the same thing. They attack the other. Why? because the other's belief system scares them. Personally I think that comes from a lack of faith in their own belief system. If they truly believed, they would not fear.

I try to accept others beliefs, but even I who have been doing that for years, cannot accept some people's beliefs. For instance - the insanity in believing that it is ok to kill someone so that they can't perform abortions - I think that is idiocy to the Nth degree!

I think as humans that we naturally judge others. Its not from birth - we are born as unjudgemental people, but we are taught from birth to judge.

I have listened to those who have been judging the secret today and I have heard 2 specific thing that make me laugh.

1. That the secret is a belief in god or that it is atheistic

2. That it is only to get rich, by the rich

The Secret uses both "god" and "universe" interchangeably. I think they do this because they know some believe in god, others don't. This way, the book can appeal to both parties as well as any other belief-system.

The comments I have heard about it is only to "get rich" make me shake my head. They obviously did NOT read the book or watch the DVD. The people in the Secret specifically talk about how being "wealthy" is not just about being wealthy in money, its about being wealthy in ALL parts of your life. Gaining money is just one tiny part of the book/DVD. And since when did money become a bad thing? People who decry money are usually doing so because they don't think they can attain it.

Lastly, people do not want to believe they caused the ill in their own lives. Wake up people! I can honestly say I attracted the situations in my life I did not want by concentrating on not wanting it! I no longer do that, thanks to the Secret.

Why down something that brings another joy? Maybe its just because they can! They feel like crap, so they down something positive that brings others happiness. Most unhappy people want to bring others down to their level.

Just refuse to go down there! Live your joy, whatever it is! Who cares about the naysayers? They do not matter, unless you let them!!!!!!!!!!!

Fear! Just take a look at the course of history. We believed for eons the world was flat. Go to the moon, simply Buck Rogers type of fantasy. Go faster than the speed of sound? Impossible! And it goes on and on.
In religion, take a look at the number of wars that have been fought in the name of religion, and still are. Iraq, Afghanistan, and Ireland.
What we as humans cannot see, smell or touch is beyond understanding and therefore must be bunk.
I personally have seen the results shared in the "Secret". Both from my personal gains and from family and friends. I wish we could evolve beyond such negative thinking, but as long as narrow minded people exist and spread their fear and negative beliefs, we will continue to move along at a snails crawl.
I am sure that some idiot will attack this answer, just as they attack every thing else that frightens them. Their loss. Just keep the faith my Friend. Keep the faith.

I wonder whether these nonbelievers understand that the principles behind "The Secret" are fully backed up by multiple experiments in quantum physics.

There are many people, especially here, who base their beliefs about the universe on "scientific principles." That's fine - except most of them are not scientists and haven't read a science book since high school. These are the people who still think an object can't move faster than the speed of light (it can) and that the smallest particles are protons, neutrons and electrons (they aren't).

The book and DVD of "The Secret" are good introductions to the Law of Attraction, but they are too new-agey for critical and skeptical people. Me, I'm a skeptic, so after watching the DVD I did more research. I learned about hundreds of experiments that have taken place in the last 15 years, all of which prove that focused thoughts and emotions have a direct affect on physical reality. "Powers" such as remote viewing and telekinesis DO exist. (The government even used remote viewers to locate missile complexes during the first Gulf War.)

It's sad, really. Once you know the truth, skeptics who refuse to do their research begin to sound insane themselves. At this point in the scientific research, not "believing" in the Law of Attraction is like not "believing" in gravity.

Such heresies deserve to be outed.

The essence of Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret is the law of attraction. According to Byrne and her twenty-nine co-contributors, all things in the universe (which is always capitalized and usually synonymous for "God" in the book) vibrate on a particular frequency. When a person thinks in harmony with the frequency of something, that person attracts it to themselves. If a person thinks about wealth, that person will receive wealth. If a person thinks instead about their debt, the person will receive more debt. You attract what you think about; your thoughts determine your destiny.

The law of attraction is restated by Byrne in various ways:
- "Nothing [good or bad] can come into your experience unless you summon it through persistent thoughts" (p. 28).
- "Your thoughts are the primary cause of everything" (p. 33).
- "Your current reality or your current life is a result of the thoughts you have been thinking" (p. 71).

Other quotes:
- “You are God in a physical body. You are Spirit in the flesh. You are Eternal Life expressing itself as You. You are a cosmic being. You are all power. You are all wisdom. You are all intelligence. You are perfection. You are magnificence. You are the creator, and you are creating the creation of You on this planet" (p. 164).

- "The earth turns on its orbit for You. The oceans ebb and flow for You. The birds sing for You. The sun rises and it sets for You. The stars come out for You. Every beautiful thing you see, every wondrous thing you experience, is all there for You. Take a look around. None of it can exist, without You. No matter who you thought you were, now you know the Truth of Who You Really Are. You are the master of the Universe. You are the heir to the kingdom. You are the perfection of Life. And now you know The Secret" (p. 183). [Here the author thinks all of this should be said to the person in the mirror. It is the heresy of heresies. Her big "Secret" is nothing less than Satan's original lie in the Garden of Eden, "You will be like God" (Genesis 3:5).]

- "no one will stand in judgment of [your life], now or ever" (p. 177).

The author absolutely promises: "There isn't a single thing that you cannot do with this knowledge.... The Secret can give you whatever you want" (p. xi). By it "you will come to know how you can have, be, or do anything you want" (p. xii).

The Secret is nothing more than heretical so-called Name It-Claim It, Positive-Confession, Prosperity Theology (minus God and the Bible), built on a metaphysical foundation of New Age self-deification. All with an important twist: your thoughts can bring anything into your life because you are god.

To put it bluntly: The Human phsyce is on a fast downward spiral! Now taking that into consideration imagine a cornered rat being the human phsyce. It lashes out at anything it perceives or assumes to be a threat to it's survival. It's a very ugly picture meaning that mankind is capable of any negative action, atrocity or evil! It is the state of man at present.

Contributors to this forum want to share what they regard as good news. The atheists in the crowd recognize that religion is a net detriment to society, and want people to think for themselves -- which, if they actually did so, would cause them to abandon it and use their efforts and talents toward more constructive ends, to the net benefit of themselves and everyone else.

because promoting a ridiculous, nonsensical philosophy,..... as real, pukka, and bona fide,..... is unprincipled,... unethical, and deceptive.

Using threat's of incinerating, burning, and torturing those in Hell, because of exercising their right to disagree,... expose's the naked violent wantonness of a psycopath.

Do you really think an atheist is going to just meekly stand by,.... and allow a deceptive, misleading, sham, like this to simply pass by without a challenge.

If you do ,........ your'e wrong.
Because atheist's do not tremble, at the sight of a god,.. a jesus,... or a devil with a fork....
