I have to smile now!!! Well, I think as a Christian you shouldn't do this. While some fine Christians might be smoking tobacco pipes, I don't want to judge them. There is a funny song by Johann Sebastian Bach (great Christian composer) and it's all about how he gets very philosophic about his tobacco pipe ;). I don't know it fully off by heart and if I turn on the old LP now to listen to the text and translate, my husband will get mad at me, so I better don't.:) :) :) - old Bach has got a god dose of humor, too.

If you ask yourself why I waffle about 18th century German composers - well I am German. I'm using my husband's old business American yahoo account which he doesn't need anymore, he said I could use it. That's how I got into this section, if someone is wondering what I'm doing here. I've discovered the German yahoo!clever meanwhile, too. But I love discussing religion in English, that's why I still hang out here sometimes. My grammar might be horrible!

They can still get mouth cancer. Christians are to treat their bodies as temples of the Lord. We fail miserably. Mostly because we simply will not trust God when He says He can help us resist temptation. So, yes, you can be a Christian and smoke a tobacco pipe but you really should give it up.

Inhaling or not isn't the issue here. Smoking is not prohibited in the Bible. Many denominations encourage their followers not to smoke as a matter of self-discipline, or as a matter pf personal holiness, or for some other reason.

If you're looking for a congregation where you'll get good Bible teaching, yet not have anyone bother you because you smoke, try a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. (LCMS, it may be called.) You can find them in the Yellow Pages of the phone book. Look under Churches, Lutheran. Then look under Churches, Lutheran, Missouri Synod. They're great. I personally go elsewhere, but can highly recommend this denomination. They really care about teaching the Bible accurately, yet don't get hung up on things like smoking and drinking, like some denominations do.

There is no rule about not smoking in the Bible.. What a one must to to be a Christian is reach out and take the Gift of life through faith in Christ.. Nothing else.. Now after becoming a child of God the Holy Spirit will begin to conform you into the image of Jesus.. It might be a long process but the person being worked on IS a child of God... Jim

Christianity is not based on works (behavior). Rather it is based on acceptance of Christ as Lord and Savior. Will a Christians living change over time. Absolutely but the change is not instant. Smokers, alcoholoics drug users, adulterers, murderers, theifs can be and many are Christians. Christianity is not the end but the beginning of a life long journey to wholeness and holiness.

I am a Christian and I smoke. Jesus said it was not what we put into our mouths that defied our faith, but what came out of them. If we profess falsely, then we are false. If we profess truthfuly, regardless of the things we eat, drink or even smoke tobacco, then we are true. If tobacco is going to keep me from Heaven, then what am I really fighting for?

One thing has nothing to do with another. After all, Jesus himself drank wine (I know that he wasn't Christian) If the Biblical people had known about tobacco, I'm sure that many would have smoked.

You can depending on the religion.

I am Mormon and most people think you cannot become one if you smoke but that is not the truth.

You cannot partake of temple ordinances if you smoke but you can come and worship and eventually work towards going to the temple.

If you new the blessings of the temple and not smoking beyond health benifits and God manifests it to you would you stop?

It is a promise in the book of Mormon that is you read it and ask God in the name of christ if this church is true and that God would want you to know this he will manifest to you.

Good luck

Smoking, and not going to church every week is bad bad, to a christian. On the other hand, if you want to go overseas and kill people in the name of Peace, you are considered a hero.
