I'm very glad to read about your support for your son's decision. People have different views of the world and it's important to listen rather than force opinions on people.
I would recommend speaking to someone either at the school or if he is also attending mass, at the church he attends. This way, you have a better understanding of his beliefs and you can clear up some misconceptions both you and the church will likely have.
I'm not Catholic but I am Christian. Baptism/confirmation is a relationship formed by the person making the commitment - not his/her family.
Good luck!

I dont know about specifically Catholicism, but certainly your son can be a Christian without you two being religious. I know you said that you can't accept God, but I think you should definitely give it a go, for his sake if nothing else.
It is so great that you are both being so supportive, even when you aren't religious yourself. 'm sure that means a lot to him.
One wee point to bear in mind, and i dont want to cause any offence to anyone with this, but he doesnt have to be Catholic to be a Christian - if there are any problems in the catholic church, there are plenty of other churches who will accept him and your situation just as it is.
hope this helps a bit

First of all before i say anything i will have to congratulate you, because many of the people believe in relegion blindly just because of their parents. You are depending on what your mind tells you, so thats good. Well let me ask you a few questions. Just say i bring a machinary in front of you that no one has ever seen before and i ask you who knows the function of this machine. You would obviously say the manufacturer or the maker or the creator or the inventor etc. So how do you think the world came out, or the universe and all the nature. If it just came out of no where how can it be so perfect. Okay moving on, the study of embryology right now has just been discovered recently that is about a hundred years ago. But who do you think told about the development of an embryo before 1400 years ago in the Holy Qura'an, obviously the Creator (GOD). Next point, it was only before like 500 years or so people started to admit that the world is spherical in size but then the Quran said this 1400 years ago. Who do you think would have said this, obviously the Creator(GOD). My next point, it was only a few years ago that science told us that the sun rotates on its own axis, but Allah said this in the Holy Quran 1400 years ago in chapter 21 verse 33 ( you can confirm it by referring to the Quran). It was only recently that science says that mountains prevent the Earth from shaking but my Creator, Allah said this 1400 years ago in Chapter 78 Verse 6 and 7. And another point, science only recently found that the universe is expanding but Allah said this in the Quran before 1400 years ago in chapter 51 verse 47. Hope i have proved enough about the existence of God. Im not an expert in Islam, but there are people with better knowledge than me and all ill say is Islam is the true relegion and hope to see you as another brother or sister in Islam. You can watch the video of this expert speaker which might make you a bit more confident and reading the Quran would clarify all your doubts im sure. If you have time watch both these videos-

No, neither you nor your husband have to believe in god if neither of you feel that way at all. There is nothing to say your son cannot believe while his parents are atheist, I would actually like to see if most religious parents have the same views as you, if the situation were reversed and their child(ren) didn't want to believe in a god.

Mistake was sending him to a catholic school. They are mind controlling, brainwashing morons. Why didn't you just take him to a different church once a week and put him in a public school. Let him make up his own mind. Catholics will impose their 1000 yr old beliefs on him. Threaten him with hell, satan and all the other mythical beings. Haul him out of that school now. Not tomorrow or next week. NOW.

Keep supporting Him and try not to destroy his Spirit. God Loves this Boy and it would be terrible in the eyes of God to forbid this child to know Him. One of the worse sins. It falls into the catagory of Suffer Not the Little Children. To withhold anything this Child needs . There is a Chapter in the Bible that tells about this.

I think you have done very well, and it's nice to read about parents who are treating their child like a human being, and not trying to control there every thought, as far as i know he can join any church, some might try to get you to go along but that's up to you, I hope he grows up to give his children the same freedom that you have given him.
Love & Peace

Mahatma Gandhi once made a Muslim father bring up an orphan as a Hindu (complicated story, buy the DVD!) but basically said "Toleration and love should mean that one can keep one own faith and allow family members to develop their own.
It is possible for him to join without 'sponsors' from his family, but usally as an adult

If you don't believe in god, why did you send him to a Catholic school allowing him to be taught what you must surely consider to be lies. Why have you neglected to tell him what you believe the truth is? Well done you have now lumbered him with religion.
