I want to know which Linux Distribution for Desktop Computers is the best and why is it so? Secondly Which Linux Distribution has the largest usage share amongst Linux Users? And what are the similarities and differences between Linux and Windows and what are the pro's and con's of both these Operating Systems? And will Linux ever succeed against Windows in matters of Worldwide Usage Share?

There are a huge variety of Linux distributions out there. Most of them are general OS, suitable for desktops, workstations and servers. Examples are Debian, Fedora Core, SuSE, RedHat, Ubuntu, Slackware, Gentoo etc.

Determining the best out of them is a difficult job. I would prefer Debian, because of its sheer size ( debian etch is 23 CDs..), stability, support and usability. Its available for almost all the architectures around.

Suse is the best for newbies. They go for userfriendliness and eyecandiness. Nice looks it has got. People migrating from windows shall find this more easy to use than most of the distros around. But i would suggest people to try other distros as well.

Fedora Core, another series from Redhat is pretty much of a standard. Its easy to find precompiled installation files (like rpm's) for Fedora. The latest release is FC6

in case you haven't any longer have been given an working gadget put in you may no longer use something. in case you put in Mint Linux, there is no longer very plenty you're able to do and not applying a connection to the internet. each little thing is on line. i'm confident you will possibly have a chum who has an information superhighway connection you will possibly desire to have the flexibility to temporarily use. I propose connecting with a Ethernet cable so which you would be able to get right of entry to the internet.
