in·spi·ra·tion
1. an inspiring or animating action or influence: I cannot write poetry without inspiration.
2. something inspired, as an idea.
3. a result of inspired activity.
4. a thing or person that inspires.

per·spi·ra·tion
1. a salty, watery fluid secreted by the sweat glands of the skin, esp. when very warm as a result of strenuous exertion; sweat.
2. the act or process of perspiring.

Basically, what it means is that you can have the most brilliant ideas in the world, but that's only the beginning. You have to WORK to achieve your dreams and goals--Only then can it be considered true genius.

Here's my take...

Inspiration means you came across a new/unique idea... one of those "Holy crud, this could work!" moments.

Perspiration is sweat, that comes from hard work.

Edison (it's his quote) knew that stuff that heated up would glow. He then spent a lot of time figuring out what stuff to use- he went through several hundred materials before using tungston fillaments. Lots of sweat to make the idea work.

1% talent, and 99 % hardwork...
to prespire is to produce sweat, thus the saying means geniuses are primarily hard working people .
