Flossing brings nasty crap out from in between your teeth, and brushing and rinsing takes it completely out of your mouth. Do it the other way around and you're just removing crap from in between your teeth, just to relocate it to another place.

well, because all the food that was stuck between your teeth can be brushed away. if you floss AFTER, then the food stuck between your teeth is still there.
