Science is not replacing religion. Science is just proving religion wrong. Once religious people realize that religion is a lie they might look to science for a replacement for their devotion but I believe the more intelligent will realize that you don't need a crutch, religion, science or whatever to get along on this world.

Not replaces, but they certainly butt heads occasionally.

Faith is often based on assumptions. Those who have true faith realize that their faith is based on their opinion of what they find to be likely (for example, I may find the concept of a god likely).

Science is what we've seen for sure, and always trumps faith. We've seen for sure its germs that cause disease...not demons. People had faith in demons, because that's the explanation they found to be most likely without evidence. In cases like these, they cannot co-exist.

In cases where science has no answers, then faith cannot yet be proven wrong as it is only presenting a possible answer. They CAN co-exist. For example, I may think that the universe was created randomly, someone else can believe it was a creator. Both are possibilities.

People who cling to possible answers as fact w/o evidence do not show faith, they show ignorance.

It would have to replace (or abolish) some religions. Creationism and evolution hardly mesh.

Other religions can embrace science easily.

No, they are two completely different things... one based on fact the other on belief...

but science can certainly show some of the illogical beliefs of religions...

Edit: Religion is frequently used to deny fact or fill in the "gaps" of what science does not yet reveal...

I think, religion and science need to work together.

Define science?

It would be foolish if someone let it. Science is the use of the powers of observation to explain the world. Religion explains how much of the world is unobservable.

It has been doing so for a while - especially since 1859 - and will continue to do so at an ever-accelerating pace.

I hope so, though I admit it seems unlikely in my lifetime. But for the sake of future generations, I hope it does eventually.
