None. At least not in the bottle, you get a ffffffttttt! when you open it, so that may count as one bottle burp I suppose.

However, the drinker of the bottle of beer is a different story. If it is chugged, there is usually a really loud long deeply mellow buuurrraaap! that may be gutturally issued by said drinker.

Are we to assume that belches are just a larger version of the burp? If so, read on.


Each singular gulp usually produces a burp - they have to be gulped to get a full round belly belch sound. However, most people don't take just a singular gulp, it is usually two or three good "swigs". Now here is where it gets interesting. With multiple swigs one can get a series of burps and sometimes the belcher (and the listener) can feel/hear the burps and belches coming together in a group.

Sipping beer can produce several different reactions to the carbonation in beer. One is the small, almost unnoticeable burp. The next is sort of a hiccuping burp and creates a rather strange look on ones face. Then there is the slooow growling burp that sort of backwashes what ever is in the stomach into the burp/belchers mouth. Depending on the level of intoxication, one either ignores the taste or grimaces somewhat. Then there is the flatulence which is sort of a lower form of burping. These can't be counted for a few hours due to digestion processes.

Then one needs to consider the bottle itself. Is it a stubby(11 oz.), a longneck(12 oz.), a bomber("tall boy in the south,22oz.), or an Australian longneck(27 oz.). As you can see there is great variety in the size of the bottles.

So as a result, you can see that the number of burps in a bottle of beer can be a bit of a bother to compute because of the variations in drinking style, the physiology of the drinker, his level of thirst (gulping verses sipping) and the size of the bottle of beer.

But on the average, I would estimate it to be about two medium burps per ounce of beer.

There are no burps in the bottle of beer just in your stomach, as it digests the alcohol and carbonated liquid, the gas comes out via a burp.

Just as many drinks as there are in a beer. I burp after almost every drink unless it gets clogged then I have one HUGE burp and those are funnest!
