I mean hypothetically of course, I have not actually found such a person. But surely there must be some system in place?

I believe one will not identify the true moshiach until g-d wants us too. It will remain a secret until the time is right. people have claimed to be the messiah already and were all false. When the ultimate messiah comes along we'll know it!

Read Maimonides, "The LAws of Kingship." He tells you spot on how to spot the Messiah with no doubt. With those signs, if he don't come, you'll be waiting forever without a false positive.

Why not ask the messiah himself(herself) if he/she is the true messiah he/she will know what to do.
One more thing. Be prepare to be very disapointed.
