The simple fact is, swear words are only swear words because some idiot labelled them as bein. What makes F*** so much worse than flip? It'd be ok for me to say "Sex off" but not "F*** off"? What's the deal here?

Swearing is looked down upon by people who don't do it. It is a sign of weakness in character and vocabulary according to them. However, I find that they frequently use substitutes for some very effective swear words. Personally, I also use swear words in places and times where I feel they are appropriate. They often serve as a quick release of frustration. However, if used because of lack of better ways of expressing oneself it might do to increase ones vocabulary and thus increase ones ability to control a situation.

I've actually talked about this with my friends before.

I personally, don't think swearing is bad. I do it all the time. I do, however, make sure that the company I am keeping at the time are OK with it. I would not swear around someone who does not like it.

I think people feel swearing is bad because it can be insulting to whomever is getting sweared at. Someone who is swearing can come across more angry than what they are. For example "For good na' sake" and "For f*** sake".

Some people also probably find it quite vulgar. I guess it is just one of those things with society today. They have been labelled as unacceptable words to use.

Which would hurt you more? I call you a degenerate, or I call you a corrupt person. It's all about sparing other people's feelings.

And by the way what makes you think telling someone to sex off would not piss them off. An insult is an insult. Just because you think something you say does not/should not offend others, doesn't mean it doesn't. In the right context if someone told you to f*** off, you would really loose your mind. An insult is an insult and words mean what they mean.

To me words are just words...but there are connotations behind them that upset others. It does seem strange that a person is upset about so called "swear words" but have no problem with making personal comments about someone's personal appearance or ethnic/religious background. But like it or not, in the current society swear words are taboo and it's not likely to change...especially in social and professional environments. Better to watch the lingo and be safe rather than sorry because you've offended someone who may have hiring or firing power...

If a person is so lacking in vocabulary to describe what he wants to say, then he has the problem. Why do people insist on offending others with their language? Freedon, yeah. But what about the right to be free from those imbeciles who get off by offending others. It's called etiquette. Civility. Courtesy.

I've often wondered this myself. They are, after all, just words. I myself swear a LOT. I only noticed when I went to visit my mother and she pointed it out to me (she swears too but would never admit to it). I don't do it in front of certain people like my lecturers or professors (even though one of my lecturers swears all the time) or my Granny. Sometimes no other word can be used other than F*** or B******S!!!

Good question. Did you know you can now get a fine for swearing at a policeman?

Technically it is the people that think the lanuage is bad that makes it bad. Really they are only sounds.
Problem is some sounds are less pleasant than others.

Well, I know most people hate when people cuss, but I don't really care. (Just as long as you don't do it in front of kids) ;)
