I'll start from the bottom up and attempt to give you my opinion, which you may or may not agree with...but these are just my thoughts.

Technically, an ocean is a large body of water containing salt. And since there is no mention of salt water being in this "lake" of fire, we cannot assume that it is, indeed, an ocean.

We refer to a large mass of molten lava as a "lake" of molten lava, and as such can refer to this firey pit as a lake also. A lake of something doesn't necessarily have to be water.

And if we are to follow the bible, and it's teachings religiously, does it not clearly state that the bible is the word of God? And if God said that hell would be a Lake of Fire, why would we question it? If everything in the bible is correct, then there's no need to question whether or not hell is a lake or an ocean.

So my question to you is: Can you be a Philosopher, constantly questioning and trying to prove/disprove and also be a follower of a religion that says that everything written in scripture is acurate and cannot be faultered?

No one really knows where or what hell is.
The Bible speaks about it as being a lake of fire but in my opinion I think that this is only symbolically speaking about the type of punishment that will exist there. The pain is overwhelmingly excruciating. The Bible also calls hell a place of outer darkness and a place where there will be gnashing of teeth. To call hell a lake of fire is only a symbol to show the reality of what living there will be like. The bottom line is that it will be a place of excruciating pain.

Yes it is correct to call it a lake of fire. No, it was not a lake set on fire. Wouldn't you think that after a while you would turn to ashes in a lake of fire so people would just turn to ash. So obviously it doesn't take an ocean.

I think that it is correct to call it a lake of fire because a small fire isn't large but a lake can come and many different shapes and sizes and hell has enlarged itself like a body of water that just keeps growing and growing... and the bible said that hell will one day be moved....

As I understand it, "Lake of fire" is just a metaphor. It goes along with "Gehenna," translated as Hell in English Bibles. Gehenna was the name of a garbage dump outside of Jerusalem where trash was burned. By using Gehenna Jesus was painting the picture of Hell being a big burning garbage dump for the souls of the unrepentant. "Lake of fire" is the same thing. To say that is should be literally an ocean of burning napalm, in my opinion, is taking the word picture farther than it should go.

I don't think any words could fully describe the horrors of Hell to the human mind, nor could any words fully describe the glory of Heaven. There are word pictures in the Bible that attempt to describe both places, but it's like looking at them in a foggy window. You just have to *be* there to really understand what it's like there.

Picture the whole earth covered in water as if it were a 2nd flood. substitute the water with fire, and there you have it HELL! the only way to purify sin is fire. the world has to be purified some way so as the flood destroyed the earths surface in Noahs day it will be the same at the end of time. Hell is not a physical place yet. it will be after Jesus has come to take his followers to heaven

I think the term "lake of fire" is more literary than analytical in its usage.

Didn't some atheist ask a question earlier about "why do Christians ask such sarcastic questions?" Hypocrite.

lake of fire can be metaphorically speaking, as the fire is so vast it appears to be as big as a lake or is a "Lake of Fire"
