Pus is a whitish-yellow or yellow substance produced during inflammatory responses of the body that can be found in regions of pyogenic bacterial infections. An accumulation of pus in an enclosed tissue space is known as an abscess. A visible collection of pus within or beneath the epidermis, on the other hand, is known as a pustule or pimple. Pus is produced from the dead and living white blood cells which travel into the intercellular spaces around the affected cells.

Pus, also called exudate, is the result of fluid remains of liquifactive necrosis of tissues. Too complicated?? How about this? It's the result of infection and the body's immune system fighting the infection. Pus is made up of dead white cells (primary ingredient), dead bacteria, bacterial waste (different bacteria have different color waste), and dead tissue cells.

FYI: Pus comes in varying colors, not just "white to yellow". It can be white, pale to dark yellow, yellow-brown, yellow-green, blue or bloody. The characteristic colors are due to the waste given off by bacteria. Different bacteria have different color waste and so the color of pus can help identify which type of bacteria is behind the infection.

Pus is a white to yellow substance produced during the body's inflammatory responses. White blood cells move to the site of an infection to help kill the bacteria. Simply put, these white blood cells are then broken down...so, pus comes from dead white blood cells (neutrophils).

If you are talking about the discharge from an infected cut, puss is dead white blood cells that were trying to get rid of the 'thing' that was under your skin.

If i'm not mistaken, it's the white blood cells rising to the surface to engulf the bacteria from the wound to cure it of infection.
I hope that's right!
