2012 is just a number. If 2012 passes, and nothing happens, they'll move on to yet another number. Humans have been playing this game since the beginning of time.

"these people believe the world as we know it will end in dec. 2012."

"Those people" are almost all gone. The sumerians, egyptians, and mayans have all disappeared. There are remnants of the cherokee and hopi, and there are still tibetans, but they're almost all buddhist now.
You're also either deliberately misrepresenting some of their beliefs, or you have been misled and you're just repeating it...they did not all believe in the same cycles, and not all of their ancient superstitions call for the world to end in Dec. 2012. Oh, and by the way...not a single one of those ancient civilizations had an accurate measurement for the actual year...so I wouldn't put too much faith even in their calendars :)

That said...there is no evidence of any kind that any of these predictions are correct. Zero. So why are you bothering with them? Even if the 1 out of 600,000,000,000 or so chance they're right actually comes to pass, what can you do about it? Nothing.
So relax. Live each day as if it might be your last (which is ALWAYS true, predictions or not), and enjoy life. You'll enjoy however many days you do have more.

Peace.

I am not someone who has been capable of much feelings for much of anything or have been in touch with senses which deal with things outside of rational thinking, BUT

A few years ago, I experienced an awakening. I looked upon the face of someone and felt an incredible warmth. Soon after, I could suddenly feel what people felt. I could also feel other thing that "told" me things which I must learn and know and prepare for.

At the time, I did not know what these things were, but overtime I have learned that there is something headed our way, that requires immediate attention.

I have read Edgar Cayces' predictions about a pole shift that is due to take place on earth and have found collaborating scientific evidence that shows his prediction is in the making.

I have also read about Mayan prophecies and found them to be already taking place as well.

With this in mind, I think there is a good chance that we may experience something significant in the years leading to the year 2012 and beyond.

I expect and will prepare for a pole shift for late 2011. If nothing happens, all the better. If it does hit, I'll be ready. I also expect people to become aware of what is true and what is not: I expect them to reach a higher awareness. I expect our materialistic nature to give into our nurturing nature.

I Hope mankind does not let their greed and fear and hate keep us from reaching this time and beyond.

STRIVE FOR PEACE !

The world will not end December 21, 2012.

Even if the seven-year tribulation period was to begin tomorrow (03/25/07), seven years would bring us to the year 2014. From the end of the tribulation period, the world will continue on through the seven last plagues and the Millennium (a thousand years) to finally be destroyed after the battle of Gog and Magog.

My personal belief about the December 21st 2012 prophecy, is that some very interesting astrological phenomenon will occur, but nothing earth shattering. The world will continue just as it always has.

What do I think about prophecies ? I never do. Many make guesses of what's going to happen in the future. Some of the guesses will work out, and people say that he had some way of predicting the future. They forget that just as many predicted something else.
Predictions are simply guesses.

I think you're bound to lose a few years over the course of 26,000. I also find it hard to believe that all of those cultures independently came up with the same date. I suppose we'll all find out.

I am taking the - wait and see attitude. But the boomers, the greatest work force there ever was, will all be retired by that time, so things will drastically change, and not for the better.
Where will the war mongering America get its armies from then? China will be the economic engine, America will be down the tubes.

Not that it will END, but that we will be fully transitioned into another epoch. And that currently we're in the transitioning - that started in 1987 and will end in 2012.

Which is cool (regardless if it's true or not) because I was born in 1987.

No, it's just the Mayans. No Sumerians, Egyptians, etc. And personally I think it's bollocks.
