No, I think its mostly caused by people unwilling to accept an authority figure may know something they don't. Honestly now, how many Christians do you know hwo can even tell you who formed their denomination and why, and give the scriptural arguments for and against. A Jesuit or Anglican here and there. Maybe the Methodist minister at that little church by the highway. The guy you suspect wheres makeup.

That's it. Nobody else actually studies it.

In my mind ... the different denominations within the Christian tent are as any other organization. Lets look at the military for example. One organization but many different parts. You have the leaders (Generals, Majors, Lieutenants, etc.). You have the grunts (PFC and Corporals, Sargents). There are artillerymen, demolitionists, pilots, mechanics, ordinance officers, specialists, radar operators, medical personnel, procurement officers, book keepers, etc., etc., etc. There are many parts of both bodies, the church and the military.

They all serve a purpose.

I think they show that Christianity and other religions cannot be proven correct because there is no evidence for any of them. It also shows how silly beliefs can divide people in profound ways. It's kind of sad, actually.

How about society concentrate on the central event: reality? Let's focus on what we can prove before we jump on bandwagons to the improbable.

People are varied. Because we are different, we don't all fit into the same niche or find what we need for spiritual comfort and growth in the same beliefs. I also think we are at different places in our spiritual growth. Sects, creeds, faiths are like different lanes on the same highway. We're all trying to reach the same destination, oneness with God. Just in different lanes. The destination is the same.
