I don't think peace at all is available in Islam. They claim peace peace, then blow you up.
Even those trying to go by all the rules fear they aren't good enouph. The only assurance of heaven is to be a martyr for the cause of Islam, Allah. By killing enemies or friends of enemies of Islam.

The problem is that Muslims do not know the history of Islam. They are fed with lies and they make no effort to find out the truth.
You have to know the history behind every verse and Surah to understand what it says.
The truth is that Muslims were never attacked by anyone. They were always the aggressors. In fact Muhammad’s wars are called Qazwah and that means: raid, sudden attack, ambush. Muhammad was not in the habit of declaring wars. This would have given his victims time to prepare and would have reduced his chances of victory. He always attacked his victims with no warning and took them by surprise, when people had gone to the fields after their daily business, the gates of their fortresses were open and they were unarmed.
The following hadith makes this point very clear:
Ibn 'Aun reported: I wrote to Nafi' inquiring from him whether it was necessary to extend (to the disbelievers) an invitation to accept (Islam) before meeting them in fight. He wrote (in reply) to me that it was necessary in the early days of Islam. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) made a raid upon Banu Mustaliq while they were unaware and their cattle were having a drink at the water. He killed those who fought and imprisoned others. On that very day, he captured Juwairiya bint al-Harith. Nafi' said that this tradition was related to him by Abdullah b. Umar who (himself) was among the raiding troops.” Sahih Muslim Book 019, Number 4292:
It was always he who broke his words and committed all sorts of crimes and then he blamed his victims.

Q: Does Islam really teach peace? I am a Christian and I do not hate Muslims, but I read in the Quran verses like, ;And slay them wherever ye catch them.. (2:191) and;But if they turn away, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks. (4:89). How can a peaceful religion teach these things? How do you explain these verses. These quotations from your Holy Book do really make us very uneasy with your faith. I would appreciate your reply.
Now tell me honestly, do these verses give a free permission to kill any one any where? These verses were revealed by God to Prophet Muhammad at the time when Muslims were attacked by the non-Muslims of Makkah on a regular basis. They were frightening the Muslim community of Madinah. One may say using the contemporary jargon that there were constant terrorist attacks on Madinah and in this situation Muslims were given permission to fight back the terrorist. These verses are not a permission for terrorism; but they are a warning against the “terrorists. But even in these warnings you can see how much restraint and care is emphasized.

Every religion has violent parts of their holy book. Take these prime examples; "If within the city of man comes upon a maiden who is betrothed, and has relations with her, you shall bring then both out of the gates of the city and there stone them to death: the girl because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man because he violated his neighbors wife" (Deuteronomy 22:23-24 NAB)
- so does that mean it's the woman's fault for being raped?
"They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with their hearts and souls; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman." (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB) That's death to nonblievers right there
Does that mean Christianity is an inherantly violent religion? No - it means there are violent verses in the Bible which most Christians with any sense ignore.

The verses you have quoted are not shown in full context. Plus, they are conditional and situational in the time when war was upon the Prophet and people of Madina.
You will find that Islam is actually peaceful if you did a bit more unbiased digging on Islam and associated Quranic verses.
God Bless.

I am not a Muslim, but I believe that I can.
For one thing, the translations are all a bit questionable, which is almost always going to be the case with translations to English. "the tax in acknowledgement of superiority" is translated from the word jizya, compensation, reparation. The only reference to superiority of which I am aware is in Shakir's translation. Yusuf Ali and Pickthal make no such mention in their translations.
The Muslims took control of the cities of those who fought them and charged a tax to those healthy adult males who wanted to live with them, but not serve in the military to defend the city. They took this example from the Byzantine system, under which non-Christians were taxed in this manner.
Context is another thing which explains these. If you read Q 4:74 by itself, it sounds bad. If you read the rest of that chapter, or even the next passage, it becomes obvious that it is speaking about rescuing people who are being mistreated AND wishing to be rescued.

Yes, we are evil, our religion is evil and filthy, You are good and clean, is that what you wana hear?
Therefore We will most certainly make those who disbelieve taste a severe punishment, and We will most certainly reward them for the evil deeds they used to do." (41.27)
If you disbelieve in your creator, do evil you get punished, I think it's the same in Christanity.
[Shakir 4:74] Therefore let those fight in the way of Allah, who sell this world's life for the hereafter; and whoever fights in the way of Allah, then be he slain or be he victorious, We shall grant him a mighty reward.
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 4:74]
"In the way of Allah" implies taking part in the holy war with pure heart and clean motives, not for booty. A believing and devout warrior either wins a victory or gives his life to attain martyrdom, because ignominy of defeat is not for him. There is a mighty reward awaiting for him in the hereafter.
[Shakir 9:29] Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 9:29]
Aqa Mahdi Puya says:
According to this verse a disbeliever, or a polytheist, or an infidel (kafir) is he who (i) does not believe in Allah, nor in His oneness and unity, but associates other created beings as partners or co-equals with Him (ii) does not believe in the day of judgement (iii) does not follow what Allah and His Prophet have enjoined (iv) does not accept and submit to the true religion.
As the above noted negations are correlative and interrelated, one is the necessary consequence of the other. Apart from the corrupted and distorted beliefs of the people of the book (described in the succeeding verses) their denial and rejection of the true religion of Allah, Islam, is sufficient to put them in the category of disbelievers. The Jews and the Christians are the people of the book, and according to the jurists of the school of Ahl ul Bayt Zoroastrians are also included in the people of the book, because in verse 17 of al Hajj they have been grouped with the Jews and the Christians, and the Holy Prophet and Imam Ali also treated them in the same manner as the Jews and the Christians were treated.
Allah enjoins upon the believers to fight against the disbelievers and the people of the book until they are subdued and agree to pay jizyah (the root meaning is compensation) with willing submission to live under the protection of Islam, enjoying personal liberty of conscience, free to profess and practice their own faith, not interfering with the preaching and progress of Islam. They were exempted from military service, therefore in effect jizyah was a nominal compensation paid by them in return for the protection of their property and lives for which the Islamic government was responsible .
It was a necessary step that had to be taken in view of the treacherous attitude of the Jews and the pagans who had been harassing and creating chaos all the time during the lifetime of the Holy Prophet. When defeated they readily made pacts to avoid the consequences of the defeat, but always jumped at every opportunity to kill the Holy Prophet and the believers and destroy the progress of Islam by breaking promises and covenants and hatching secret schemes.
[Shakir 5:51] O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.
[Pooya/Ali Commentary 5:51]
The Jews and the Christians had much in common, and therefore readily formed an alliance against Islam. so anyone who makes them his friends must have some points of identity with them. A believer, in order to keep himself safe from the influence of falsehood, must avoid the company of disbelievers. The doctrines of tawalla (staying attached with the Ahl ul Bayt) and tabarra (avoiding the enemies of Allah, the Holy Prophet and his Ahl ul Bayt) are the articles of the faith of them followers of Muhammad and ali Muhammad.
The Holy Prophet said:
Do not adopt the style and mannerism of my enemies, lest you may be considered as one of them. He who appears like a certain type shall be identified as of that type.

Duuuude. That's like, not the Koran. Islam teaches you to respect other religions. So I think, and this is my own personal belief, that you should take all that bologna of a question and make it into a sandwich. : )

the old testament has even more examples of this same kind of thing in it
take Deuteronomy 7 for example
muslims can be peaceful in the same way christians can.
they dont do every little thing their book tells them to, but instead try and follow what it teaches them about loving one another
