Nope, it wasn't his girlfriend. It was just a girl he saw for the first time. They traced her down too.

yes, new york harbor region. that man was on I believe it was 60 minutes or 20/20 about 5 yrs ago. They had tracked him down to talk to him about that picture. He had just gotten home from a long tour and and he was past excited to see his girlfriend.
