When I was on a hikeing trip someone told me that putting a pebble under your tounge activated the saliva glands and increased the time you are hydrated. It seems like this would take even more water, to mee. Whats the answer??

It does nothing to prevent dehydration. What it does is keep your saliva flowing, so your mouth doesn't feel as dry. But your body has the same amount of water in it whether you have a pebble in your mouth or not.

I don't know about the pebble, but I would stick to the water before the rock gets lodged in your throat. Good Luck

Do you really believe this? I hope not. I also think this would take up more water. They obviously thought of you very naive and tried to trick you into doing something that would make you embarrassed.

No it doesn't. If it does anything good at all, it keeps your mouth closed and focuses your attention on a rock in your mouth instead of your growing thirst.

What it does is help you keep your mouth shut and distract you. Less moisture is lost when nose breathing
