You can definatly take dogs on puplic transport.
A year or two ago I used to take a dog on the bus all of the time.
Next week I am going to take a very large dog on a 6 hour train ride, and was not completely sure if I was allowed, so I phoned the National Rail number - 08457 484950. They were very helpful.
Just to double check for your self I would phone the natural rail number and any bus companies you may wish to travel with.
Have fun :)

No genuine public transport in Southern California. except you're desirable in la. No canines allowed on bus different than service canines. My canines stay for automobile rides. they are in the vehicle on a daily basis. particularly as we holiday each and every day between the domicile in the suburbs to the ranch the place we are rebuilding from a hearth. The Pom will bounce into anyones truck on the ranch if its has an open door to take a seat down on the midsection console. The longer the line holiday the extra advantageous. They commute with me to horseshows and those journeys would nicely be 2-3 days on the line then of direction the time on the events, and then thecontinual back. The Collie sleeps....the Pom sleeps and navigates.

ive travelled to a lot of dog shows from yorkshire to lancashire by train and bus-buses do depend on the bus driver whether they will charge for your dog (some companies like 'firstbus' dogs travel free-in yorkshire anyways!) 'arriva' 'stagecoach' 'K-line' 'black prince' etc im not so sure (the last time i went by bus was about 3 years ago!) the last time i used a train my dog travelled for free-but she was small and in a carrier-train travel policy may have changed now though! but i do know that companies like 'national express' WILL NOT allow dogs on passenger buses-i wanted to go to a champ show so i checked before entering found that they wouldnt carry them so didnt go!
the best thing is to plan your route and ring the local bus/train companies on their policy of dogs and transport!

I think the only way you can take your dog on public transport is if it's small enough to keep in your arms or lap. Anthing bigger than that could be a no no in case the dog gets nervous and starts barking at other passengers...

Yes you can. There is no charge but it is at the discretion of the transport operator. For example, if you try and board a packed commuter train with a great dane the train guard may chuck you off!
Don't let your dog on seats etc and there should be no problem.

Yes you can but give the bus company prior notice. Two months ago I took a GSD from Margate in Kent via London to Glasgow on National Express although I had to pay full fare for him.

It depends where you live
In Canada / USA ( most places anyways) it would be no - :( as sad as it is they don't allow dogs - if it is a smaller 'pocket' dog you may be able to 'smuggle' it on board though ,, your best bet is to call the local public transit & ask to find out their views on things-- most taxi's if you ask in advance will alow pets ... but they cost much ore to take than public transport

Last time I used public transport I had to pay half fare for my spaniel. That was 10 years ago.
