Hello

I visited a medical lab yesterday to get my blood draw for some tests....I was surprised by the low quality of the LAB and it was basically a mess..I didnt feel that they followed any type of safety procedures at all ! Anyway, I dont know why, but I let them draw my blood. The needle was taken out of the plastic wrapping in front of me....Was I at any risk of contracting any virus from the lab?? I am very scared of HIV !

Not only would you look at the sterile needle, but the person that drew your blood. Did they wear gloves? chances of getting HIV from a person that draws your blood is slim. They'd have to have a bleeding cut on their finger, and then get their blood into you. I wouldn't worry about getting it since a sterile needle was used, but, I'd complain somewhere if you can.

If the needle was new and in its package, you are not at risk.
