Recently I had some Jehova's witnesses round at the door, and one of them asked me why I didn't believe in God. The question didn't make much sense to me - nobody is born with religious beliefs, so surely it would be more useful to ask why somebody does believe in God. So I asked her why she did, but she couldn't tell me.
If you believe in God, can you tell me why ?
Please don't stray off topic - I just want simple answers like 'I was brought up in a religious household' or 'I have had a vision of Jesus' or whatever. Please try to think it through before answering and be honest about the origins of your belief.

I used to believe in god. Then I didn't. Then after considering life and the conditions on earth, took a long serious look at the available information from religous and non-religous sources, read the Bible and concluded that there is a God.

Sidebar: If they asked why you don't believe in God, it must have been in response to you claiming you do not believe in God. Is not the question why don't you believe a fair response to the claim of non-belief?

My answer won't satisfy you, but I'll give it anyway.

I was born Romanian Orthodox and raised the first few years Lutheran.

As a teenager I screwed around, including with an explosive chemical which whent BANG but only HALF WAY. The half NOT in my hands. The half in my hands didn't go off. Something stopped it and as a result I have hands.

I play gutiar, keyboards and I obviously type.

OTHERWISE, I'd be doing that today with STUBS today!

That is my answer

I don't expect you to understand it

But I am COMPELLED to thank someone for that miracle

Not the RANDOM universe

Guess who!

If YOU can't accept this, then NEVER EXPECT TO BE THANKED for what you do for others in life.

Expect people to just take it in stride. If you do, then undestand by common defintion that makes you a SAINT.

Get the point!

The typical Jehovah's Witness has knocked on thousands of doors, and discussed God and Christ with hundreds of householders. It is almost beyond belief that a minister of Jehovah's Witnesses would be unable to tell a householder why she believes in the existence of a Creator.

(Hebrews 3:4) Every house is constructed by someone, but he that constructed all things is God.

(Romans 1:19-20) What may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them. For his invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable

What in case you have been gay, yet you have been a stable individual? all people who engages in gay intercourse isn't a stable individual because of the fact they are sinning against God. no person could say what in case you have been a murderer, yet have been nevertheless a stable individual because of the fact all of us understand that a stable individual does not homicide. purely because of the fact some thing is appropriate in society does not advise that's ok. If somebody is attracted to a similar intercourse yet by no skill has gay intercourse then they could be high-quality. could you nevertheless pass to hell? specific in case you probably did not repent and alter your techniques. Is my mom and pop what he meant via that? if so, why could he enable that? a guy does have authority yet he additionally should maintain on with all the different commandments dealing with marriage. He would desire to look after her and look after her so if your Dad is yelling at her then he is going against the commandments of God. yet that's purely truly very final authority and the guy will make the vast judgements because of the fact he's the only that would desire to be looking after the family contributors. - It additionally says athiests would desire to be placed to dying. What if the athiest grew to become right into a stable individual? could he nevertheless be placed to dying? I even have many athiest friends and their the nicest human beings i understand! Does God truly need that? The bible by no skill says Atheists would desire to be killed so i don't understand the place that got here from. God purely expects love. Worshipping him is a thank you to teach your love for him. in case you refuse to love God then he won't rigidity you to be in heaven with him so which you will get what you want and you'd be sent to hell. Hell is the way we've unfastened would even in the afterlife.

I believe in God not only because I was born in a Christian family, but because I feel Him all around me at times. I have had days when nothing else would make me feel better about a problem but turning my burdens over to Jesus and letting Him take control. God Bless You and I hope you'll reconsider someday.

Hello gav.. :)

I raised an Atheist..

I was going to commit suicide, but when my brother came to get my children to go with him to church he asked me to go to with him, I told him I was not dressed, but he said he would wait..I cursed at the Pastor and told him he was a Jesus Freak (I hated Christians) all the Pastor did was tell me he loved me and Jesus did to..Yeh right.. :(

The following Sunday I went back to the Church, to curse some more at the Pastor, but before I could say anything, he asked who wanted to be baptized that afternoon, my hand went right into the air..so I was baptized right behind a little Church, where as a young child, I would make fun of and taunt all the goody goodies, that went to Church there on Sunday..

I asked Jesus into my heart, I did not feel any different that day. I even smoke a joint on the way home..

But the next day I no longer had any doubt..I was quoting the Bible..(I never even had read it before)..My heart felt clean, as though it was white as snow..I was drug free..my old life which I thought was exciting, compared nothing to the unspeakable Joy I was feeling..I saw everything differently, in a New light..I understood what other Christians meant when they told me that they Loved me..

I finally had found the Love, I had been yearning for..

My precious little girl came to see why I was crying..we hugged one another I told my sweet little girl I Loved her, God had bestowed down upon me, His Love for my ten year old little girl, whom I could not Love on my own..the emptiness (hole in my heart) was gone and His Love took it's place..

I also found out what it means to be a believer in Christ..you think that your friends, will see the change in your life..and they do..but it is not something that they want, they no longer wanted to be my friend, they made fun of me, because I no longer swore or smoked pot etc.. :(

For Whom the Son hath set Free is Free Indeed.. :)

In Jesus Most Precious Name..
With Love..In Christ.. :)

You know I went to a private school and never really cared about "God" and religion. I just coasted through. But as I got older, I started realizing that the things that are considered "Bad" in the book is so blatantly promoted today as "Good." And the pattern seems to follow the book.

Do you know that jehova witnesses do not believe in miracles ,they think that there has not being any after the apostles died out,so do not heed them. As for god he will show himself to you in some way if you ask,so read the word.

I was brought up a non-Christian, and heard the horrific stories the RC church inflicted upon my mother and her sister.
This confirmed to my mind that the God of the Bible wasn't worth considering. However, I had an interest in all things supernatural and paranormal; also UFO's. I was once hypnotised and regressed to a "past life" as a Gloucester lad serving in the Irish Guards during the Napoleonic wars. It was proved to be a load of bunk as one observer there was an expert on British forces of the time, and he asked simple questions like description of the uniform, weapons in our use, etc.
I later joined the Royal Navy, where I lived the life of a (stereo)typical matelot: booze and sex. I used to get a selection of porn magazines from one of my workmates, but one evening he told me he no longer had them as he'd become a Christian. We were shortly thereafter drafted to HMS Illustrious, where I spent 16 months trying to persuade him how ridiculously superstitious he was. Yet every question I threw at him he was able to refute from either the Bible, or from Evidence That Demands a Verdict, by Josh McDowell.
To cut a long story short, one day after yet another setback in my life, I threw out a challenge to God. He answered within a 1/2 hour. For another two years I investigated the evidence of the Bible and compared it to scientist's points of view. Realising my refusal to accept Christianity as true was no longer based on "facts" but on selfish motives -- being loath to give up drunkenness and sex outside of marriage -- I was brought to a point where I was forced to make a decision one way or the other. I opted for Jesus. That was in July 1987, and I have only one regret: that I hadn't become a Christian at least ten years earlier!
Since then I've seen God work many incredible "Godincidences" (i.e. miracles) in my life, including getting back my family from whom I had become estranged through neither their fault nor mine. I've died and been brought back to life, recovering more than twice as quickly than they expected, and am now testing a calling to the church ministry.

The Earth is very beautiful. Man didn't make the Earth. So I believe something more knowledgeable, creative & pure made the Earth... As everybody in my life called the creator "God" I also called the creator God.
Nothing complicated about that, surely!
