I am spiritual not religious. I believe something bigger than me created this planet I live on and the amazing things around me that I see every day. However, I refuse to put my belief in any opinion (religion) that justifies killing in the name of their god. I believe there is a power greater than I am. But that power is too busy with EVERYTHING else that he doesn't have time to dictate my life down to the letter, that's why he gave me a free will. In that free will, he gave me a choice to choose what I believe. He didn't tell me "you have to be Christian"...Christian's do that. He didn't tell me "you have to be Muslim"...my Muslim students tell me that. He didn't tell me "You have to be Catholic...Catholics do that. All the god I believe in told me is....NOTHING. My free will (conscious mind) leads me to know what is right. If you believe in the bible as your spiritual GUIDEBOOK, it tells us to remember his commandments and keep his name holy. Now, are all of the devout religious extremists (and some of the moderates too) going to tell me that they would have NOTHING to base their moral behavior on if they didn't have their guidebooks? God didn't create the separations in religion. Man did. All because they didn't believe the way someone else believes.
The problem with our society isn't any one religion...its religion itself.
"A belief is a lever that once pulled, moves almost everything else in a person's life"
Religious faith perpetrates man's inhumanity to man. Don't believe me?
Christians: Read Deuteronomy 13: 7-11
Muslims: Koran 9:73 or 9:123
Religion in its purest form is an opinion, supported my hearsay. Take Christianity, the only facts that can be proven for sure are; Yes their was a man named Jesus and yes that man died. He may have indeed "died for the sins of man." But it was his OPINION (no one was there to know whether or not his father...God, told him this) that the people of his time needed him to. Isn't that being a martyr? Isn't that what the attack of 9/11 made the high-jackers? The high-jackers were martyrs. They were glorified in their countries for what they did in the name of their god. Everything else within religious texts are OPINIONS. Opinions are neither right nor wrong...they just are.
People base their religious beliefs on something that has NO factual evidence and it is use this religion as a reason to continue hatred in our world. They behave as if they would have NOTHING left to base their moral behavior on if their faith was taken away. Some of the bloodiest wars we have ever seen have been perpetuated by one thing, hate justified by their religion.
Palestine (Jews v Muslims) Northern Ireland (Protestants v Catholics) Sudan (Muslims v Christians) Nigeria (Muslims v Christians) etc etc etc.
Read your history books, put your brains to something other than such a blind following to your faith. IN WHAT OTHER ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE would you willingly do what someone tells you to do, with no evidence that it is necessary, Remember that at the same time they tell you to do this, they are telling you if you don't you will die and have an inconceivably horrible existence in the here after. How can you rejoice in telling someone who does not believe the way you do that GOD will condemn them to hell?
Try putting away that religious guide book for a few days. See if you can still live your life with a strong moral fiber. Yes you will live it in the way you were taught is right, but wouldn't you live that way JUST BECAUSE IT IS RIGHT, not because some book with very moving words of wisdom, consoling and beauty told you to. You can find these things in the works of Shakespeare, Virgil and Homer, but most of us don't go around saying...I live this way because Shakespeare told me to in his book Romeo and Juliet.
Religion perpetuates and justifies hate, pure and simple. Attacking others is OK because God tells me its OK in this guidebook of his I read. WAKE UP and smell the coffee. You were given a free will, just like everyone else. Take time to anaylize and study your book of faith. Prove to yourself whether or not you can truely live your life the way that book tells you to. You may not go out and kill someone because a page on a piece of paper tells you to, but if that's the case, are you as devout to your religion as you should be?

Hello.
I am an atheist. I do not believe in the existence of a deity. This is considered weak atheism or agnosticism by some definitions, because I do not believe that no god exists, I simply do not believe in things without the evidence to prove them. Understand the difference?
The reason that I do not believe in a deity is because it cannot be proven by science. Science has shown us a huge universe can be understood. It shows us that the earth is not the center of the universe and that mankind has only existed on this planet for a short length of time.
But there is evidence that human societies have created religion. Humans invented over 2,000 deities and doctrines to address the human condition. In the days before science, these ideas explained the physical processes of the world and answered meaningful questions that humans assumed were only answerable if a deity controlled the world. And many religions have done horrendous things to other groups and non-believers on the basis of silly doctrines (transubstantiation, gender roles, etc).
So I cannot believe in a god until the evidence shows me that one exists. I am generally more critical about earth-centered religions because they make physical claims that have been dislodged by science (like Evolution vs. the book of Genesis with Adam and Eve).
I hope that this helps in your project. Thanks for asking! :-)

I am Agnostic. Agnostic's believe that you can't prove there is a god, but you can't prove that there is no god. Nor can anyone really know whether or not there is a god. I'm Agnostic because I don't believe in pretending to know something that can't be known. I don't know if there is a god and that is good enough for me. I follow logic and science, but still believe that there COULD be a god. There is just no way to know. It's sort of the absence of religion.

I am a Hindu. I chose this religion after studying much about religions. When I read the Hindu Scriptures, I was so impressed. I felt they were true and they touched me very much. I love the Hindu worship practices, because they make me feel closer to God, and they help me to keep my eye on the higher goals of life.

We belong to Imaginary Society.
We converted about two years ago, and it's nice.
You can keep your old religion, too. If you want you can hold dual religionality.
They have imaginary temples in Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Montreal, Novosibirsk, and one other place I forget.

Baptist, because when I look around at the world, how could one not believe God exists. A mountain, a child, it couldn't all be some wonderful accident.

I'm an ATHEIST!
"What happens when we're dead? The irony is that all our questions will be answered after we die. We spend our whole life trying to figure out the truth and the only way we'll find out what it is, is to get hit by a bus. And the only comfort that religion offers is that God is driving that bus." -
