Well, Mark Twain was an athiest and didn't have much nice to say about the hierachy of the Christian churches...not sure how you would turn that into a thesis, however...

Samuel Clemens knew better than to follow cult nonsense. He despised organized religion and found flaw with a great deal of xian doctrine.

He found being around devout Christians to be about more than he could take. He was once stuck on a trans-Atlantic sailing trip with a Christian group onboard and he could barely tolerate it.

He was against organized religion but his family surpressed alot of his anti-religion books after he was dead. Thats really all I know I've never read much of his work sadly.
