There was a recent dog food recall last week. My dog had been exposed to the tainted food, He only ate 2 cans luckily. Took him to the vet a few days after, he got an xray, and blood test. The vet said everything look normal and to just change his food. He also perscribed pain killers just incase. Even though everything is said to be normal, since then, my 8yr old silky terrier has had the following symtoms:

His whole body, but mainly rear legs have been shaking. He looks disoriented and chooses to avoid everyone and hide when we try to approach him. Whines when we try to touch him. His appetite is normal, energy good. Can avoid being active sometimes and prefer to sleep for hours. At times it looks like he crosses his back legs to maintain balance and cannot walk straight. He opens his mouth like he's gasping because he’s hot, but is not thirsty. He seems to have the most trouble after using the bathroom. He's urinating and his stools are normal. It seems like an on and off thing.

He's normal one second, then he's like in pain. What’s could be wrong with him?

Take your pet back to the vet. Tell the vet the symptoms. Your dog may have something the vet didn't test for, or that wasn't caused by the tainted food. Good luck!!

Are you giving him the painkillers? It could be a reaction to those. Do a google search on canine side effects to the specific medication the vet gave you.

The food was tainted with rat poison, though they have not said what kind, he should not need pain killers for exposure to that.

Go to the vet ASAP! The symptoms you describe sound like neurological problems which could be related to the rat poison found in the food. Call the vet right now!

Go to the vet once again. No one hear can correctly diagnose your dog without actually seeing it. This may have absolutely nothing to do with the dog food, he may be sick with something else. Make an appointment ASAP and the vet can help and prescribe meds.

if i had to guess i would say that he was in a fight or hit by something. ofcourse at 8 i guess it could be something to do with his age but that would be kind of odd. you may need to ask your vet again over the phone to see what he things might be going on especially if yhou know that you gave him the recalled food
