Coupling ultrasonics ((from 10KHZ to as high as 10 million HZ) into a solution of water, alcohol, acid, etc. will produce a violent cavitation of extremely small bubbles which have enough energy to overcome surface tensions between substrates and anything on them such as dirt, paint, and coatings. Once the substrate is cleaned, it is removed, washed free of debris and allowed to dry. There is an entire science of generating ultrasonics and using them to clean things.
The electronics industry could not exist without the ultrasonics cleaners/baths. PS. Don't stick your fingers into an ultrasonics cleaner. It will break down your epidermis cells and you could get a nasty shock from lower voltages than you expect.
