I don't have any, because I have studied Islam (as well as other religions) in order to understand the people who pratice them. Everyone should do that, as there are a lot of misconceptions out there. I've heard the one you mentioned, as well as people saying the men make the women cover up. I know that this is not true. In Islam, it is an honor for a woman to cover her head or body. She chooses to do this when she is ready.

I previously had many misconceptions about Islam before I met my husband. He's a Muslim and he is the most wonderful, intelligent, open minded and loving man I've ever met. So all my misconceptions were shattered.
I suppose my biggest misconception, as a western woman, was that Muslim men treat their woman poorly. Until I met Khalid (my husband) I thought that it was common for Muslim men to abuse, bully, and treat their wives as second class citizens. When I met Khalid I was pleasantly surprised to find out that isn't at all true. It was an eye opening experience! Khalid actullay treats me with more respect, consideration and appreciation then any of the American men I went out with.
As far as misconceptions go, I think it goes both ways: the Christian world has misconceptions about Islam and The Islamic world in turn, has misconceptions about the Christian world. Unfortunately, ignorance and racism is a two way street.
The simple fact is: every religion and walk of life has people who try to do good and those that do evil. The only thing we can do is to initially be open minded and give each person the benefit of the doubt. Everyone should be judged on the basis of what is in their heart not on what affiliation they belong to.

You want a specialist. This guy was born in Palestine and holds 2 doctorates. He has a Ph.D. in Islamic Studies from Oxford, and a D.Min from Luther Rice. He is about as expert as you can get. He knows the truth, and he can tell the truth.

The problem is that the World is getting it's impressions of Islam because of the actions of the Extremists while the Moderates sit by quietly. If more Moderates would denounce the actions of the Extremists who are distorting Muslim beliefs, people would have a better understanding.

Youre full of it! Islam came to us in full bloom on 9-11. So stop blaming others for such misconceptions on your religion. We dont see or hear anything from you muslims that would make us believe otherwise, so if there are misconceptions speak out against these killings and those who seek to destroy us instaed of blaming us. You so-called peaceful muslims can do nothing but blame us instead blaming those radicals, which says youre all on the same side. Now what's ignorant about that?

Many people have misconceptions about Islam because what they are seeing in the world today.
They are not well-aware that terrorism and intolerance is actually forbidden in Islam.
We have a lots of bigots here on R&S who are esp. intolerant of Islam. Let them babble... and rave...

Praise be to Allah.
Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding."
