Yes they are both too young. Dogs should NOT be bred under the age of two and not before they have had and passed genetic health testing. A female especially is neither physically nor mentally ready to have puppies. It could very well have an effect on mom and puppies...emergency c-section, low/no milk production, failure to care for the puppies, killing puppies, stillborn pups, etc

this is too young. As a former long time breeder you do not breed a female until she has gone through season at least 3 times. This will generally put her at 18 months to 2 years. Just because a 12 year old girl can get pregnant doesn't mean is right. Same with female dogs. This is a sign of stupidity and in people thinking that money is more important than they dogs life. Breeding dogs is expensive and generally most who do it like these 2 are not competent enough. Wait til the time comes they have to pay vet bills for the pups and realize they do not have the money. Breeders do not make money breeding dogs which is why they are more interested in proper breeding.

It is not too young as far as being possible, but it is too young as far as the interests of the female dog and the potential puppies. Humans can breed at early ages, as young as nine. But is it good for them? Would they let their nine year old get pregnant because she had her first period and was "ready", biologically? I agree with you. It's too young and not responsible breeding. A possible complication is the mother being too nervous and she could harm her puppies or not produce adequate milk, not to mention that if a person breeds a dog at this age, when will they stop? When she dies? There are a lot of benefits to having a female dog spayed and a male dog neutered. I am not saying no one should breed dogs, but I do believe they should do it responsibly. I am sure people that are good dog breeders will have a lot more to say about potential problems of breeding a female too young or too often.

A good breeder would have waited until the dogs were older. I am not sure if it will have an effect on the puppies. She is definatly not the first person to do it. Puppy mills will usually breed their dogs as soon as they have their first heat. That is around six months or so. It sounds like your friend is not really into breeding for the right reasons.

Not only are the dogs too young, but the breeder appears to be also.
Yes, way too young, especially since you can't get hips checked until the dog is 2 years old.
Tell your friend congratulations, you are a puppy mill.

You should make sure that your dog has fully developed before breeding her I heard that it is inapropriate to breed your female before she is two years of age.

They should be ok, but personally I think she should have let them age a little bit more before breeding them.
