Why someone would borrow something from you and not bring it back?

they lost it, forgot about it, broke it, like it so much waiting for you to ask for it before they give it back.

Some people simply forget that they have borrow an item. Other people just don't respect your or the item enough to care about whether it is returned to you or not. Then again there are others who actually lend the item they have borrowed to someone else and then you'll rarely get it back.
I have always felt that if I have something very precious or irreplaceable .... I NEVER lend it to anyone.
When I have lent items to friends or neighbours and they haven't returned them .... I make a point of asking them for it back. At this point I will actually wait for them right then and there to return it to me because I need to use it immediately!
Then there are situations when someone has borrowed something from me and not returned it but they ask to borrow something else of mine! This is when I say ... "When you return item number one ..... then I can lend you the next one!"
I have even been asked by the same person who borrowed my hand mixer, if they could borrow my hand mixer (Hahahahahahah!) My answer was simple: "If YOU would return my hand mixer to me .... I would have it to lend to you!" Needless to say, they were a little embarrassed and I've never been asked by this individual to borrow anything of mine again!
Hopefully I didn't bore you with all these situations, but when you've lived a while .... you have experiences with many different people. Thanks for letting me share and I hope I've answered your question for you.

because they want it more than they want you to trust them. i've had two people who i thought were great friends take very expensive clothes to "borrow" only to claim they never had them when I asked for them back months later... people are just rude and selfish I suppose.

They may have forgotten or perhaps they have decided that they own it now in either case i would say ask them politely for it back good luck

It has happened to all of us and then when you ask for your things back you become the bad guy or is broken, not fair i hear you.

they like it and they don't find it elsewhere but at uh...and they want it...so they keep it...saying they forgot to bring it back:D
