The easiest way to relieve pressure on the environment is to immediately convert from petro-coal electric generation plants to nuclear energy. France and most of Europe uses nuclear.

The USA was going to do so also, until 3 Mile Island and the China Syndrome Movie.

After that, most electric generation plants converted from coal to natural gas to comply with Clean Air Act permits.

What this did was put stress on the natural gas market and other petroleum fuels.

By switching to nuclear, it would reduce coal and natural gas emmissions.

To reduce reliance on petroleum, the government should convert all non essential military and government automobiles to compressed natural gas. This would free up petroleum in a tight market and reduce carbon emmisions.
